National News

1. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the FSSAI (Finance) Regulations, 2023 to maintain a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Fund.
   • This fund will include grants given to the food authority by the Central government among others. This will be audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General annually.
   • There will be a Finance Committee. The Chairman of the committee will be Executive Director-Finance of FSSAI (incumbent: Sharad Aggarwal).
   • The committee will have a representative from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and two members nominated by the FSSAI among others.

    • United Kingdom used the Beating Retreat Ceremony to call their patrolling units to the castle. The ceremony started in India in 1955.
12. Ministry of Defence was the top procuring ministry of goods and services from MSME sellers in the calendar year 2022 through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
    • In terms of state, Uttar Pradesh ranked top buyer of MSME goods worth Rs 9,642 crore through GeM in 2022.

    • Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, the parent organisation of IIDL has is also the secretariat of the G20 Civil Society engagement group – Civil20.
    • Every year, IIDL organises a Model International Leaders Meet (MILM) to orient students towards international relations.
    • Indian Institute of Democratic Leadership (IIDL), a centre promoted by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, is designed to produce trained, ethical, and responsible leaders.
14. Justice G. Rohini-led commission for the sub-categorisation of other backward classes (OBCs) has now been given 14th extension in its tenure by the President.
    • The commission, formed in October 2017 under the Article 340, was initially given 12 weeks to finish the task of sub-categorising the nearly 3,000 castes within the OBC umbrella and recommend division of the 27% OBC quota among them equitably.

15. PM- Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PM-PRANAM) has been launched by Central Government to promote alternatives to fertilizers.
    • PM PRANAM was launched under the GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources) Dhan Scheme.
    • 500 new “waste to wealth” plants will be established under the GOBAR Dhan scheme in 2023-24. Of these, 200 will be Compressed Biogas plants and 300 will be cluster-based plants.
    • A total of Rs 10,000 crores has been allocated for this scheme.
16. Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the Agriculture Accelerator Fund to support agro-startups.
    • It will attempt to implement cost-effective solutions to problems encountered by farmers by introducing contemporary technologies and boosting output.
    • In Union Budget 2023-24, Finance Minister allocated Rs 1.25 lakh crores for agriculture.
17. The Atmanirbhar Clean Plant Program will be launched with an outlay of 2,200 crores to boost availability of disease-free and quality planting material for high value horticultural crops.
    • Purpose – for bringing innovative and affordable solutions for challenges faced by farmers, and bring in modern technologies to transform agricultural practices, increase productivity and profitability
    • To make India a global hub for millets, the Indian Institute of Millet Research, Hyderabad will be supported as the Centre of Excellence for sharing best practices, research and technologies at the international level.
    • An agriculture credit target was increased to Rs 20 lakh crores with focus on animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries.
    • A new sub-scheme of PM Matsya Sampada Yojana will also be launched with a targeted investment of Rs 6,000 crores to further enable activities of fishermen, fish vendors, and micro & small enterprises, improve value chain efficiencies, and expand the market.

1. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the Ladli Behna Scheme to provide Rs 1,000 per month to women from financially poor background in the state.
   • A sum of Rs 60,000 crore will be spent on this scheme in five years.
2. Kerala Government launched the Enterprises Campaign during its 2022-23 budget. The Campaign was organized under the tagline of “My Enterprises, Nations Pride”.
   • The state has also announced 2022-23 as the Year of Enterprises.
   • Ernakulam has become the first district in the state to register more than 10,000 new MSMEs.

International News

1. International Monetary Fund has provided $4.7 billion loan to Bangladesh Government to tackle the macroeconomic issues.
   • Of this, $3.3 billion is given under the extended credit facility of IMF.
   • $1.4 billion is given under Resilience and Sustainability Facility for Climate Investments (for the first time since the facility’s inception).
