  4. Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of 157 nursing colleges at the same locations as medical colleges (that have been established since 2014).
      • Purpose – to fill up nursing vacancies and remove disparities in distribution of nursing colleges in the country
      • These colleges will be established at a cost of Rs 1,570 crore (Rs 10 crore for each college), in which states can also contribute, over the next two years.
      • With 100 seats per college, the move will add 15,700 BSc nursing seats across the country.
      • The highest number of colleges will be in Uttar Pradesh (27), Rajasthan (23), and Madhya Pradesh (14).
      • A committee headed by the Union Health Secretary (incumbent: Rajesh Bhushan) and the Principal Secretary of health or medical education in the state will monitor the progress in their construction.

  2. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has announced to operationalise the Electronic Cash Ledger (ECL) in phases for importers and exporters e.f., April 1, 2023.
      • As per Section 51A of the Customs Act, 1962, every assessee must maintain an electronic cash ledger in the customs portal.
      • ECL is a non-interest-bearing deposit account of exporters/importers with the Government for ensuring compliance in the payment of export/import duties.
      • Only the people registered on the ICEGATE portal can create an ECL account.
      • Once registered, deposits can be made in any of the 12 banks, including the SBI and PNB.
