  1. Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, launched the second phase of the Going Online As Leaders (GOAL) program.
      • The programme is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Meta (Facebook).
      • GOAL 2.0 initiative aims to digitally upskill 10 lakh youth by on promoting entrepreneurship amongst tribal communities of the country and opening up opportunities for them using digital technology.
  2. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to operationalise standards for fortified rice kernels (FRKs).
      • FRKs are rice-shaped kernels, comprising of vitamins and minerals produced through extrusion technique. In terms of aroma, texture and taste, they are required to resemble normal rice kernels as closely as possible.
  3. Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) has established an India Centre for the promotion of India-focused activities in the University.
  4. Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved India’s first indigenously developed mRNA vaccine against Covid-19 named as GEMCOVAC-19.
      • Developer of the vaccine – Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd., a subsidiary of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd
      • The vaccine has been given approval for restricted emergency use for those aged 18 years and above.
  5. Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has announced to set up control rooms at national and state levels to effectively enforce the ban on single-use plastic coming into force on July 1.
      • The control rooms will be supervised by the Central Pollution Control Board.
      • The special enforcement teams will be formed to check illegal manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of the 12 banned single-use plastic items that was announced by the ministry last year.
      • States and UT have been asked to set up border check points to stop inter-state movement of any banned single-use plastic item.
  6. Union government is planning to create 75 Textile hubs like Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu.
      • Presently, the textile industry size is about Rs 10 lakh crore and the export is about Rs 3.5 lakh crore.
      • The aim is to increase the industry size to Rs 20 lakh crores and exports of Rs 10 lakh crore.
      • Tiruppur is home to textile production worth Rs 30,000 crore every year.
      • Tiruppur is also known as the knitwear capital of India, accounting for 90% of India’s cotton knitwear export.

      • PADMA is an automated platform leveraging latest technology which will provide seamless and timely disbursal of Pay & Allowances to around 15,000 Indian Coast Guard personnel.
      • This module has been developed under the aegis of Defence Accounts Department and will be operated by Pay Accounts Office Coast Guard, Noida.

State News

  1. Maharashtra govt has renamed Aurangabad city as Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad city as Dharashiv.

Agriculture and Rural Development

  1. Union Cabinet has approved the computerization of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) at a cost of Rs 2516 crores.
      • PACS accounts for 41% of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans given by all entities in the country. 95% of these KCC loans are given to the Small and Marginal farmers.
      • For the Short-Term Cooperative Credit (STCC), a 3-tier structure is followed in the country – Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS), District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCB), and State Cooperative Banks (SCB).
      • The other two tiers, DCCB and SCB have already been automated by the NABARD and brought on Common Banking Software.

  1. Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commissioned the indigenous advanced light helicopter (ALH) MK-III aircraft in the 835 squadron at Gujarat’s Porbandar port.

  4. A small NASA-financed spacecraft named CAPSTONE has been launched from New Zealand.
      • It will study a specific orbit where NASA plans to build a small space station for astronauts to stop at before and after going to the moon’s surface
      • The spacecraft, called CAPSTONE, is about the size of a microwave oven.
      • CAPSTONE stands for Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment.
      • For Artemis, NASA’s program to send astronauts back to the moon, NASA decided to include Gateway, a small space station around the moon.

  1. ‘Accelerate Clean and Just Transition towards Climate Neutrality’ declaration was signed by the G7 countries and India, Argentine, South Africa, Indonesia, and Senegal.
      • G7 countries have announced to decarbonize its power sector and become carbon neutral by 2035.
      • $4.5 billion was committed on food security for the protection of the most-impacted people from hunger and malnutrition.
      • $600 billion was committed for the development of healthcare

  1. State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank have acquired a 54% stake each in Bengaluru-based Perfios Account Aggregation Services Private Limited (Perfios AA).
  2. EasyTransfer, a leading cross-border education payment services platform, has partnered with Cashfree Payments, one of India’s top payments and banking solutions companies.
      • Purpose – to offer a faster, easier, and cheaper platform for Indian students to make international payments to overseas educational institutions
  3. Star Health and Allied Insurance has signed a corporate agency agreement with IDFC First Bank, for distribution of its health insurance solutions.
  4. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has launched ‘Global Health Care’, a comprehensive health indemnity insurance product that provides cover to a policyholder for planned as well as emergency treatment both in India and abroad.
      • It is the industry-first product.
  5. PYSE (an investment platform) has launched India’s first fractionally-owned solar power plant in Karnataka.
      • The platform helps retail investors to invest in sustainable projects that create social and environmental impacts from a ticket size as low as Rs 5,000.
      • Fractional ownership refers to a set-up wherein groups of investors pool in funds to purchase a property.
  6. Central government has allowed to sell locally produced crude oil to any Indian refinery for turning it into fuel, such as petrol and diesel.
      • However, the ban on the export of crude oil will continue.
      • The decision would allow Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India Ltd (OIL) to sell their domestic produce to anyone offering the most price in an e-auction.
  7. Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, in its meeting at Chandigarh, has approved a proposal to impose a 12% tax on hotel rooms costing below Rs 1,000 per day.
      • The Council has also agreed to levy a 5% GST without input tax credit on hospital rooms with rent above Rs 5,000, excluding intensive care units (ICUs).
      • The Council will also clear levying the highest tax of 28% on online games, casinos and horse racing.
  8. Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics Corp and India’s Tata Motors have formed a strategic partnership to design, develop and make semiconductor solutions.
      • Renesas will work with Tata group firm Tejas Networks to make products initially destined for India and eventually global markets.
      • India expects the domestic chip market to reach $63 billion by 2026 from $15 billion in 2020.
