  1. TheMinistry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD) is celebrating the 6th Rashtriya Poshan Maah throughout September 2023.
    Key Highlights of Poshan Maah 2023

    • Objective: To raise awareness about critical life stages, including pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, in order to promote better nutrition across India.
    • Theme: ‘Suposhit Bharat, Sakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat’(Nutrition-rich India, Educated India, Empowered India)
    • This Year’s Initiatives:
      • During this month-long event, the MoWCD will lead nationwide efforts to raise awareness about nutrition, focusing on key themes such as Exclusive Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding.
      • These efforts include activities like-
        • Swasth Balak Spardha (Healthy Child Competition) to encourage healthy competition for better nutrition and overall well-being.
        • Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi (Nutrition and Education), improving nutrition through Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), sensitising tribal communities about nutrition, and addressing anaemia through a Test, Treat, Talk approach.

• Launched- 2018.
• Reduce stunting, undernutrition, anemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and reduce low birth weight by 2%, 2%, 3% and 2% per annum respectively.

  1. First space-based Indian mission to study the Sun, ‘Aditya- L1’, has been launched.
      • Launch Vehicle: PSLV-XL
      • Objective: Aditya L1 will study the Sun’s corona, Sun’s photosphere, chromosphere, solar emissions, solar winds and flares, and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), and will carry out round-the-clock imaging of the Sun.
      • The mission will be launched by ISRO to the Lagrange point (L1) orbit which is about 1.5 million km from the Earth.
        • Lagrange Points are positions in space where the gravitational forces of a two-body system like the Sun and Earth produce enhanced regions of attraction and repulsion.
        • These can be used by spacecraft to reduce fuel consumption needed to remain in position.
        • A satellite placed in the halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any occultation/eclipses.
  • The spacecraft is carrying 7 payloads.

  1. Space start-up GalaxEye has launched a high-resolution aerial drone-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system.
      • The drone-based SAR system is said to be the first such technology developed by a private company in India.
      • GalaxEye’s in-house developed ‘data fusion technology’ will deliver detailed insights and data from space, empowering satellite constellations to conduct all-weather imaging without facing atmospheric hindrances are currently witnessed in current single-sensor satellites.
      • This technology will generate highly detailed images through a compact satellite constellation, which will achieve global coverage within a 12-hour time frame when fully operational.

  2. Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M Scindia has inaugurated the Utkela airport in Odisha.
      • It has been developed as a regional airport under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
      • The new Utkela-Bhubaneswar-Utkela flight route is set to enhance regional air connectivity, playing a crucial role in promoting economic growth in the area.

  3. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has launched ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar’ invoice incentive scheme, designed to promote the practice of requesting invoices among consumers.
      • Purpose:  To encourage the culture of generating GST bills and will benefit all stakeholders in the ecosystem.
      • A corpus of ₹30 crore has been made available towards the fund under this initiative on an annual basis.
      • Every quarter, there will be two awards for consumers, worth ₹1 crore each, and these will be given to the winners through a draw of lots.
        • Every month, there will be 10 awards of ₹1 lakh each, and 80 awards of ₹10,000 each.

  4. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been granted the deemed-to-be-university status by the Ministry of Education on the 63rd Foundation Day of the apex decision-making body for school education.
      • With the status of a deemed university, NCERT will offer its own graduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees.

  1. India’s GDP growth rate estimates for first quarter of 2023-24 has been released.
      • Released by- National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
      • Highlights:
        • Real GDP or GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q1 2023-24 is estimated to attain a level of ₹ 40.37 lakh crore, showing a growth of 7.8% y-o-y.
        • Nominal GDP or GDP at Current Prices in Q1 2023-24 is estimated at ₹ 70.67 lakh crore, showing a growth of 8.0% y-o-y.
        • The growth of 8 key infrastructure sectors has increased to 8% in July 2023, up from 4.8% in the same month last year.
        • During the Q1 2023-24, India’s fiscal deficit has reached Rs 6.06 lakh crore, widening 33.9% of the fiscal year 2024 target.
          • Fiscal deficit is the difference between the total expenditure and revenue of the government.
          • It is an indication of the total borrowings that are needed by the government.
  • Various rating agencies have revised their estimates for GDP growth in India which is driven by robust expansion in services and capital expenditures.

  1. PhonePe, an Indian digital payment platform, has entered the online stock broking business with a new trading app, Market under its subsidiary PhonePe Wealth Broking.
      • The app can be used to invest in stocks, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds or Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs).
      • It will provide a spectrum of investment products allowing investors across different demographics to build a balanced portfolio.
      • PhonePe was already distributing mutual funds to users on its main app, with 1 million active system investment plans (SIPs) created on the platform.

  1. 1-7 September: National Nutrition Week (NNW)
      • Purpose: To raise awareness among people about the vital role of nutrition and health in human lives, and to promote healthy and hygienic eating habits.
      • History:
        • In India, NNW was initiated in 1982 as a Mass Awareness Campaign by the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB), under the purview of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) of the Government of India (GoI).
        • The FNB is a technical support wing under the Child Development Bureau of the MWCD that provides technical support to the government on matters related to nutrition.
        • The first NWW was observed from 1st to 7th September 1982.

        • History:
          • The day was first celebrated in 2009 by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), which is an intergovernmental organisation functioning under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

  1. Amazon has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India Post to simplify cross-border logistics for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) exporters in an effort to boost their share in India’s overall exports.
      • The MoU was signed during the fourth edition of Amazon Smbhav Summit 2023 held on 31st August 2023 in New Delhi, Delhi.
      • During the event, Amazon introduced “Amazon सह-AI (Amazon Sah-AI)”, a generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) -based personal digital assistant.
      • Under this MoU, Indian exporters on Amazon’s Global Selling program will be enabled to book their shipments, print shipping labels and pay for shipping directly from their Seller Central account.
