  1. For the first time, Minister of Health and Family Welfare has launched “i-Drone” vaccine delivery model to deliver Covid vaccines to high and remote terrains by using drones.
      • The i-Drone system has been developed by Indian Council of Medical Research.
      • The system is known as ‘ICMR’s Drone Response and Outreach in North East (i-Drone)’.
      • The system was used in Manipur to deliver 900 vaccine doses across a distance of 31 kms in the state. The drone has been made indigenously.
      • Currently, the drone-based delivery project has been granted permission for implementation in Manipur and Nagaland, as well as the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
      • G Kishan Reddy is Union Minister For Culture, Tourism And Development Of North Eastern Region.
  2. Indian Railways has begun the construction of the new 2.05 km Pamban railway bridge in Mandapam, which will connect Rameswaram to the mainland in Tamil Nadu.
      • The bridge will be operational from March next year.
      • It is India’s first Vertical Lift Railway Sea Bridge.
      • The New Pamban Bridge is being developed by Railway Vikas Nigam Limited.

      • It is a 10 member group.

      • India’s pavilion comprises of miniature models of the Ram Mandir to be built at Ayodhya and the under-construction Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, the first such in the city.
      • One floor is devoted to India’s art, dance, and culture.
      • Gujarat government completely occupies the state pavilion.
      • India and UAE are negotiating on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), to be completed by March 2022.
      • 9th Meeting of the India-UAE High Level Joint Task Force on Investments was also held in Dubai.
  6. The first Industrial Security Agreement (ISA) summit between India and US has concluded in New Delhi to facilitate high-end defense industrial collaboration.
      • Anurag Bajpai led the Indian side and David Paul Bagnati led US side as both are Designated Security Authorities (DSAs).
      • 4th edition of 2+2 Indo-US Ministerial talks is scheduled for next month.
      • India and US have signed the ISA agreement in 2019 to facilitate the exchange of classified information between the defence industries of both the countries.
      • During the summit, both the sides agreed in-principle to establish the Indo-US Industrial Security Joint Working Group to allow the defence industries to collaborate on cutting edge defence technologies.
  7. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting ,Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur launched a month-long Clean India Programme from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
      • The aim of the cleanliness drive is to create awareness, mobilize people and ensure their involvement in cleaning waste mainly Single Use Plastic waste throughout the country.
      • This campaign will continue till 31st October.

      • Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship addressed the Summit.

      • NALSA’s patron-in-chief is CJI of India, Justice NV Ramana and executive chairman is Justice UU Lalit.
      • It was launched on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2nd) as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

  1. Manipur govt has partnered with Tata Technologies to transform technical training and encourage entrepreneurship and innovation in the state.
      • Under the partnership, a Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT) on industrial experiential learning and development will be established in Manipur.

Agriculture and Rural Development

  1. The incentive on sugar sacrificed for producing ethanol from B-heavy molasses/sugarcane juice/sugar syrup/sugar has been doubled from October 2021.
      • Purpose – to divert more sugar towards ethanol production and prevent cash-crunch and losses of sugar mills in India.
      • In every sugar season (October-September), production of sugar is around 320-330 Lakh Metric Tonne (LMT) as against the domestic consumption of 260 LMT which results in huge surplus of sugar with mills.
      • Now, this excessive 60 LMT will be diverted to ethanol production.

International News

  1. Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) has been launched in Seychelles.
      • India was chosen as the Partner Administration for Seychelles right now, and for Bhutan in June 2021.
      • This programme is expected to be of 12 months with a focus on Transfer Pricing cases of tourism and financial services sectors.
      • TIWB Secretariat and support of the UNDP Country Office in Mauritius and Seychelles will collaborate with India in this initiative.
      • India is partner administration for Eswatini, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Bhutan, and Seychelles under the TIWB program.
  2. About Tax Inspectors Without Borders:

      • TIWB is the joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
      • The program was launched in 2015 to strengthen the auditing ecosystem, MNC compliance, capacity building of tax officials in the developing countries.
      • The program choses experts from one country to help the other developing country.

  1. NITI Aayog, in partnership with International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Indian Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), UNICEF and Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), has launched ‘The State Nutrition Profiles” for 19 States and Union Territories.
      • The report was released at the “Towards progress on nutrition in India: Insights from National Family Health Survey (Phase -1)” event, which was organized by IFPRI.
      • The ‘State Nutrition Profiles’ (SNPs) give insights on nutrition outcomes, immediate and underlying determinants and interventions based on NFHS-rounds 3, 4 and 5.
      • The trend analysis of key indicators such as wasting, stunting, anaemia, underweight and overweight and NCDs (Diabetes and High blood pressure) was done in this report.
      • The SNPs are based on the headcount-based analysis and use of data from NFHS-5.
      • The report has provided the nutrition profile for each state individually.

  4. BharatPe has acquired PAYBACK India (a multi-brand loyalty platform) and rolled out a Pay feature on its app.
      • This is the first of its kind initiative where the QR based UPI payments and loyalty are available in a single app.
  5. World Bank has approved the $150 million Chennai City Partnership: Sustainable Urban Services Program to transform Chennai into a world-class city.
      • The Program will help strengthen institutions, improve the financial health of service agencies, and drive significant improvements in the quality of four key urban services — water supply and sewerage, mobility, health, and solid waste management.
