  1. Arunachal Pradesh has set up Northeast’s first fish museum, which will be a part of the Integrated Aqua Park (IAP).
      • The existing Tarin Fish Farm (TFF), located at high-altitude Bulla village, would be upgraded as the IAP where the museum would come up.
  2. PM Modi had dedicated two more tourist attractions – a Maze (labyrinth) Garden and Miyawaki Forest – at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.
      • PM also inaugurated Gujarat’s first houseboat service e., OYO Ekta Houseboat.
      • PM has laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 8000 crores in Tharad, Banaskantha in Gujarat.

Agriculture and Rural Development

  1. The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC), under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has approved the commercial release of genetically modified (GM)
      • Dhara Mustard Hybrid (DMH-11) is an indigenously developed transgenic mustard. It is a genetically modified variant of Herbicide Tolerant (HT) mustard.
      • It has been developed by the Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants (CGMCP) at Delhi University.
      • GM crops are derived from plants whose genes are artificially modified, usually by inserting genetic material from another organism, in order to give it new properties, such as increased yield, tolerance to herbicides, resistance to disease or drought, or improved nutritional value.

Defence News

  1. The first edition of India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise (IMT TRILAT) was conducted by the navies of these countries at Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
      • Indian Navy is represented by guided missile frigates, INS Tarkash, and MARCOS.
  2. Bharat Electronics Ltd has signed an MoU with Munitions India Ltd to jointly address the requirements of Indian Defence and export markets in the areas of ammunition, explosives and related systems.
      • The MOU was signed during the DefExpo 2022.
      • During the expo, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hosted the 2nd “IOR+ Defence Ministers’ Conclave on the theme of “Challenges, Opportunities, and Collaborations in the Indian Ocean”.
      • GRSE has developed an AI-Enabled Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) mechanism in partnership with the IIT-Kharagpur (West Bengal) to update manual inspection with automated inspection through the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning.
      • IIT-Roorkee has got DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) – a new research centre.

International News

  1. China has launched a lab module called Mengtian to be part of its space station named Tiangong space station (currently under construction).
      • Tiangong will have three modules – Tianhe (launched in April 2021), Wentian (launched in July 2022), and Mengtian (launched in October 2022).
  2. Black Sea Grain Initiative was launched by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Nations on 22 July 2022.
      • Purpose – to enable the resumption of exports from Ukraine of grain, other foodstuffs, and fertilizer through a safe maritime humanitarian corridor from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea to the rest of the world
      • United Nations, Turkey and Ukraine on Monday agreed to implement a Black Sea grain deal after the recent withdrawal of Russia from the pact.
  3. India and European Commission has organized 6th High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility (HLDMM) between India and the European Union in Brussels.

  1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will become one of the first major central banks in the world to launch its own Central Bank Digital Currency — initially for the settlement of transactions in government securities.
      • State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC are the nine banks identified for participation in the wholesale e-rupee (e-W) pilot project.

      • The award is a recognition for the government as well as the nearly 2 crore women of the state who have been empowered by the scheme.
      • The West Bengal government had launched the scheme in August 2021 to provide financial support to a woman head of a family in the age group of 25-60 years.
      • Under the scheme, Rs 500 is given every month to women in the general caste category and around Rs 1,000 per month to women in the SC and ST categories.
