      • The unique ‘Meghdoot’ machines use innovative technology to convert water vapour in the air into potable water.
      • Maithri Aquatech Pvt Ltd. has been given the contract to install 17 ‘MEGHDOOT’ machines across the Mumbai Division of Central Railway.
      • The company has also collaborated with the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad to produce water of the highest quality.
  2. Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has launched Integrated Database Management System 2.0 and Pharma Sahi Dham 0 app.
      • These initiatives were launched on the 25th anniversary of National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (set up in 1997).
  3. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), under Ministry of Electronics & IT, has conducted the cyber security exercise named ‘Synergy’, in collaboration with Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) for 13 countries.
      • The exercise is a part of the international counter ransomware initiative – Resilience Working Group.
      • The RWG is being led by India under the leadership of National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
      • The theme of the exercise was “Building Network Resiliency to Counter Ransomware Attacks”.

      About CERT-In –

      • CERT-In is the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team.
      • Established in January 2004 as the nodal agency for tackling cyber security issues.
      • Under the Information Technology Amendment Act of 2008, CERT-In has been established as the national nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents as and when they occur.
      • CERT-In undertakes following functions –
        • Collection, analysis, and dissemination of information on cyber incidents
        • Forecast and alerts of cyber security incidents
        • Emergency measures for handling cyber security incidents
        • Coordination of cyber incident response activities
        • Issue guidelines, advisories, vulnerability notes, and whitepapers relating to information security practices, procedures, prevention, response and reporting of cyber incidents.
  4. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has partnered with Adobe to accelerate digital creativity skills across the country.
      • The partnership aims to empower over 75,000 faculty in 10,000 colleges and universities over the next 2 years with access to Adobe Express.
      • Adobe Express is a new web and mobile-based app that makes it easy for everyone, independent of skill level, to create and communicate their ideas through great design.

      • This new digital initiative will facilitate authorized user associations to register their suggestions and issues with the government so that their issues related to various departments of the government can be resolved in a transparent manner.
  7. Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the Central Armed Police Forces’ eAwas web-portal in New Delhi.
      • The web-portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

State News

  1. Alappuzha has become the fifth fully digital banking district in Kerala.
      • Banking services in Thrissur, Kottayam, Palakkad and Kasaragod have already become digital.
  2. Uttarakhand Education Department has launched an e-governance portal — “Samarth” – to provide all administrative and educational updates including information about entrance exams, salary structures, appointments from five state universities and 140 public schools.
  3. Nagaland has got its second railway station after a gap of more than 100 years at Shokhuvi.
      • Dimapur Railway Station, the first railway station of the state, was inaugurated in 1903.
      • Donyi Polo Express, which used to run daily between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh, has been extended to Shokhuvi Railway Station.
  4. Maharashtra government will take a loan of Rs 4,000 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for setting up medical colleges in 12 districts of the state.

      • Purpose – to assess the availability of energy at Assam’s health, education, and livelihood infrastructures and take corrective actions to enhance the access
    Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma has launched the “Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme” under National Livestock Mission at Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district.

      • Purpose – to ensure that the farmers earn a sustainable livelihood through different livestock farming activities
      • Under Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme – phase 1, the government will distribute four high-yielding improved varieties of pigs to 6000 families at a cost of Rs 15.18 crore.
      • Rs 25 crore will be spent in second phase of the programme.
      • Under this scheme 4 piglets (3 female and 1 male piglet) will be distributed to farmers to promote pig breeding to provide regular income to farmers.
      • To make the state self-sufficient in pork, the government is implementing one of the largest piggery development programmes the ‘Meghalaya Piggery Mission’. Under the mission, 0% interest rate loans are provided for setting up piggery.
  7. Nuakhai or Navakhai is an agricultural festival mainly observed by people of Western Odisha and Southern Chhattisgarh.

Agriculture and Rural Development

  1. National Dairy Development Board has signed an MOU with Suzuki to set up two biogas plants for providing clean energy and organic fertilizers to farmers.
  2. Union Cabinet has decided to dispose of 15 lakh tonne of chana procured under its schemes to states at a discounted rate, incurring a cost of Rs 1,200 crore.
      • It also raised the procurement ceiling for tur, urad and masur from current 25% to 40% under the price stabilisation scheme.
      • The Centre will offer 15 lakh tonne chana to states at a discount of Rs 8 per kg over the issue price of sourcing state on first-come-first-serve basis.

Defence News

  1. India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant – has been commissioned on September 2.
      • It is India’s second aircraft carrier and the largest ship ever built in India’s maritime history.

Capabilities –

  • It is 262 m long and 62 m wide.
  • It would be capable of operating air wing consisting of 30 aircraft, comprising MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31 and MH-60R multi-role helicopters, in addition to indigenously manufactured Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).

 

Development –

  • Designed by the Warship Design Bureau (WDB), Indian Navy’s in-house organization and built by public sector undertaking Cochin Shipyard Limited, the carrier is named India’s first aircraft carrier (INS Vikrant), which played a vital role in the 1971 war with Pakistan.
  • The warship grade steel has been developed by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in collaboration with Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) and the Indian Navy.
  • Over 100 MSMEs have supplied materials for the development of the warship.

 

Expenditure –

  • Rs 20,000 crores have been spent to construct this warship, which helped India to enter the elite club of countries like the US, the UK, Russia, China, and France having capabilities of indigenously designing and building an aircraft carrier.
