  1. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has informed the Rajya Sabha that the 15th Finance Commission has recommended a performance-based challenge fund of ₹8,000 crore to States for incubation of new cities.
      • Maximum 8 states (with Rs 1,000 crores) can apply for grant under this fund.
      • The fund aims to create model new cities.
  2. Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the ‘2nd Indo-US Services Summit’, organised by Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC).
      • The total services exports from India to the world was $17 bn in 2001-02 and has now leapfrogged to $205 bn in 2020-21, registering a twelve-fold increase.
  3. ‘Turning Around the Power Distribution Sector’ report has been prepared by NITI Aayog, in partnership with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI, USA) and RMI India.
      • Most power distribution companies (discoms) in India incur losses every year—total losses are estimated to be as high as Rs 90,000 crore in FY 2021.
  4. According to National Crime Record Bureau’s data, suicide cases registered due to unemployment have increased by 24% from 2016 to 2019.
      • Karnataka registered the most number of suicides due to unemployment (553) in 2019, followed by Maharashtra (452) and Tamil Nadu (251).
      • Pandemic will have a spiralling effect on the labour markets and household incomes.
      • The data was recently presented in Parliament.
  5. Ministry of Culture has launched a unique programme to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on Independence Day this year.
      • Under this program, the citizens of India can sing National Anthem, record and upload their video on ‘RASHTRAGAAN.IN’.

  1. Haryana Police has won first position in crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS).
      • CCTNS is being implemented by National Crime Records Bureau for integrating the police stations nationwide for effective policing through e-Governance.
  2. Power Grid Corporation of India commissioned a 40-kilometre transmission line successfully in Ladakh.
      • With this, all villages in Aryan Valley of Kargil district are now connected to the National Grid through the 220 KV Srinagar-Leh transmission line.

International News

  1. During the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in Fuzhou (China), 34 sites (29 cultural, and 5 natural) were added into the World Heritage Siteslist (including two sites of India).
      • Now, the total number of sites in this list is 1154.
  2. UN General Assembly has approved the establishment of a Permanent Forum of People of African Descent to provide expert advice on addressing the challenges of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.
      • The forum will also act as “a platform for improving the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent” and their full inclusion in the societies where they live.
      • UN International Decade for People of African Descent is 2015-2024.
      • In 2001, controversial UN World Conference Against Racism took place in Durban, South Africa.

  1. PhonePe has launched of UPI based AutoPay functionality for its mutual fund investment offerings.
      • Now, the PhonePe customers will be able to set up their mutual fund SIPs in a few steps.
      • With UPI Autopay, customers can set up their SIPs in three steps – selecting the fund, input of monthly SIP investment amount, and authentication with a UPI PIN.
  2. As per the RBI’s data, over Rs 24,000 crores worth of unclaimed deposits are lying with the scheduled commercial banks as on 31st December 2020.
  3. SBI has added a ‘SIM Binding’ feature to its YONO mobile app and YONO Lite digital banking systems for ensuring safety of consumers’ interests against digital frauds.
      • With the SIM Binding feature, YONO and YONO Lite will work only on those devices which have SIM of mobile numbers registered with the Bank.
      • YONO and YONO Lite will work with the basic rule of One Mobile Device – One User – One Registered Mobile Number (RMN).
  4. Indian Bank has signed an MoU with Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay for extending credit to start-ups and MSMEs under its Ind Spring Board initiative.
      • Under the initiative, the bank would extend loans of up to Rs 50 crore to the start-ups for purchase of machinery, equipment or to meet working capital requirements.

        • Overweight – By 2025, no increase in childhood overweight.
        • Breastfeeding – By 2025, increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months up to at least 50%.
        • Wasting – By 2025, reduce and maintain childhood wasting to less than 5%.
