  1. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has formed the Energy Transition Advisory Committee, headed by Former Petroleum Secretary Tarun Kapoor, for preparing the report on transitioning to clean energy sources from fossil fuels.
      • The committee will submit its report in 6 months.
      • The committee will focus on scaling up infrastructure for biofuels and green hydrogen.

      • Purpose – to explore the feasibility of rolling out 6G in India, including the research on India’s competencies, and pre-standardisation activities.

        • 5th – Task force on Financing Research and Development – Chaired by Ashok Kumar Tiwari (Member (Technology), Digital Communications Commission)

  3. The first phase of the census 2021 and collection of details to update the National Population Register (NPR) have been postponed at least till September 2022.
      • In December, the Registrar General of India (RGI) had informed the States that freezing of boundaries of districts, sub-districts, tehsils, talukas, police stations etc. has been postponed till June 2022.
      • Freezing of boundary limits of administrative units, at least three months prior, is a pre-requisite for conducting the census.
      • According to provisional data compiled by the RGI till June 2021, the number of districts has increased from 640 in 2011 to 736 in 2021.
      • The sub-districts are up from 5,925 to 6,754, statutory towns from 4,041 to 4,657, census towns from 3,892 to 5,050 but villages have decreased from 6,40,934 in 2011 to 6,39,083 in 2021.
  4. Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill is being examined by a Parliamentary Panel of 31 members.
      • Chair of the Panel –Vinay Sahasrabuddhe (senior BJP leader)
      • Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev is the only woman in the 31-member parliamentary panel.
      • The bill aims to increase the age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years.
  5. Ministry of Civil Aviation has released a draft National Air Sports Policy (NASP) to govern the air sports in India and make India one of the top air sports nations by 2030.
      • The policy will cover sports like aerobatics, aeromodelling, amateur-built and experimental aircraft, ballooning, drones, gliding, hang gliding, paragliding, micro-lighting, paramotoring, skydiving, and vintage aircraft.
      • Top air sports locations like Bir Billing in Himachal Pradesh, Gangtok in Sikkim, Hadapsar in Maharashtra and Vagamon in Kerala can be declared as “control zone” to ensure safety.
      • Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI) will be created under the Ministry of Civil Aviation as an autonomous body to regulate the air sports in India.
        • ASFI will represent India at international forum like Lausanne (Switzerland)-headquartered Fédération Aéronaautique Internationale (FAI) and other global platforms related to air sports.
        • AFSI will form associations for each air sport.
        • It will be responsible for various aspects of air sports, including regulation, certification, competitions, awards and penalties, etc.

  1. Mumbai water taxi services is going to start in January 2022 to provide connectivity between the Domestic Cruise Terminal at Ferry Wharf and the terminals at Belapur and Nerul.

  3. Foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University was laid in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut.
      • The university is being established at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at an estimated cost of about ₹700 Crore.
  4. Jammu & Kashmir has announced to release its own District-level Good Governance Index to assess the governance practices of districts in the UT.
      • It is modelled on the State-level Good Governance Index.
      • With this, J&K will become the first Union Territory in the country to have a district level Good Governance Index.
      • 58 Indicators divided in 10 sectors will be used for assessment.
      • Central Govt will set up District Good Governance Index (DGGI) in J&K and the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (under Ministry of Personnel) will prepare the index, in collaboration with the Union Territory Government.
      • Technical support for the framework of this index is being provided by the Centre for Good Governance (CGG), Hyderabad.
      • Total number of districts in J&K is 20.

      • The Pre-Qualified program on Paisabazaar.com enables select customers to view customized and pre-qualified lending offers on the fintech’s platform.

      • This is the highest level of unemployment rate in India in four months.
      • Unemployment in urban areas rose to 9.3% in December and rural unemployment rate rose to 7.28%.

      • This technology could make car batteries cheaper, more reliable, and suitable for quicker recharge.
  4. State-owned Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd (PGCIL) has celebrated the first anniversary of One Nation-One Grid-One Frequency.

  6. National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) is planning to acquire 5% stake in Power Exchange of India Ltd (PXIL) to avail various electricity trading options.
      • The PXIL is India’s first institutionally promoted power exchange, which has been providing various electricity trading solutions and connecting buyers as well sellers.
      • According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ portal, the authorised share capital of the PXIL is Rs 120 crore and paid-up capital is Rs 58.47 crore. The PXIL was incorporated in 2008.
      • The government intends to expand the share of the spot power market in total electricity supply in the country to 25% by 2023-24, as part of the draft National Electricity Policy (NEP).
