  1. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) has developed INSPIRESat-1 CubeSat, in collaboration with Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado Boulder in the U.S., the National Central University, Taiwan, and the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
      • INSPIRE stands for International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE).
      • The Satellite will study Earth’s ionosphere.
      • A constellation of earth and space-weather observation satellites is envisaged under the INSPIRE programme.
      • Also, the IIST students attended training programmes hosted by LASP.
  2. Ministry of Defence has unveiled Delegation of Financial Powers to Defence Services (DFPDS), 2021.
      • The last DFPDS was released in 2016.
      • The new DFPDS allowed leasing of equipment for a short and limited time, which will reduce cost and delays.
      • The Vice Chiefs of the services will get a 10% increase in the financial powers delegated to them, with a ceiling of Rs 500 crore.
      • In the Air Force, the Vice Chief of the Air Force will have powers capped at Rs 200 crore, while commanders will have powers till Rs 100 crore for such hiring.
      • The Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff and the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee, will also get financial powers aligned with the vice chiefs.
  3. Ministry of Food Processing Industries is celebrating ‘Food Processing Week’ from 6th to 12th September, 2021.
      • A Workshop on ‘One District, One Product’ was organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and Lakshadweep administration.
  4. CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution (DFI) and impact investor, has announced to invest up to US $1 billion in climate funding to India over the next five years (2022-2026).
      • The commitment will fund climate mitigating projects and businesses in India and enhance national efforts to align with the Paris agreement.
      • UK announced to invest $1.2 bn in govt and private green energy projects in India.
      • A new $ 200 million private and multilateral investment would be done into the joint UK-India Green Growth Equity Fund which invests in Indian renewable energy.
  5. Ministry of Ayush has launched the AYUSH AAPKE DWAR campaign to distribute medicinal plant saplings to 75 lakh households in one year.
      • The medicinal plants include Tejpatta, Stevia, Ashoka, Giloy, Ashwagandha, Lemongrass, Tulsi, Sarpagandha and Amla.
  6. International Climate Summit (ICS) 2020-21 was organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with Invest India.
      • Focus of the Summit – ‘Powering India’s Hydrogen Ecosystem’
      • COP 26 of UNFCCC will be held in Glasgow, Scotland. The President of the COP26 is Alok Sharma.

State News

  1. Manipur has launched e-Inner Line Permit portal for those who have overstayed in the state.
  2. Chhattisgarh govt is implementing the ‘Patrakar Kalyan Kosh’ scheme to provide financial assistance to the families of journalists who died due to covid-19.
      • Further, Rs 2 lakh would be given to journalists for treatment of COVID disease.
      • The state has also decided to increase the monthly pension to senior journalist from Rs.5000 to Rs.10,000, under the Senior Journalist Samman Nidhi scheme.

Defence News

  1. Ministry of Defence and US Department of Defence have signed a Project Agreement for jointly developing the Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV) under the Joint Working Group Air Systems in the Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI).
      • This agreement falls under the Research, Development, Testing and Evaluation (RDT&E) Memorandum of Agreement between Ministry of Defence and US Department of Defence, which was first signed in January 2006 and renewed in January 2015.
      • The MoA facilitates co-development of defence equipment.
      • The main aim of DTTI is to promote co-production and co-development of future technologies for Indian and US military forces.
      • Under DTTI, Joint Working Groups on land, naval, air, and aircraft carrier technologies have been established.
      • The co-development of ALUAV has been overseen by the Joint Working Group on Air Systems and is a major accomplishment for DTTI.
  2. Hansa New Generation trainer aircraft has been designed and developed by CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratory, Bengaluru.
      • The aircraft took off from HAL airport.

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. All India Institute of Ayurveda has signed an MoU in coordination with NICM, Western Sydney University, Australia to appoint an Academic Chair in Ayurveda.
      • The new Academic Chair will undertake academic and collaborative research activities in Ayurveda, including herbal medicine and yoga, as well as design academic standards and short-term/medium-term courses and educational guidelines.
      • The Academic Chair will spread awareness and encourage research in the field of Ayurveda in Australia.
      • This Ayurveda Academic Chair will be based at Western Sydney University’s NICM Health Research Institute for a period of 3 years.
      • The initiative is jointly funded by the Ministry of Ayush and Western Sydney University. It is anticipated to commence operations early in 2022.
  2. Nasscom Centre of Excellence for Internet of Things (CoE-IoT) has signed an intent of cooperation with TaiwanIndia Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Research Centre, Taiwan’s largest university and incubator of startups under the National Chung Cheng University.
      • The partnership aims to support, mentor and increase market access to tech startups in India.
      • The partnership will help Indian tech startups to source hardware components from Taiwan during their prototyping or production phases.
      • This will also enable Taiwanese companies to set up business in India.
      • Also, collaboration between the two nations will be strengthened for sourcing hardware and electronic components leading to mutual success and greater market access.
  3. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed an MoU with ICAR-Indian Institute of Millet Research (ICAR-IIMR) for increasing exports through quality production and processing.
      • The MoU will aim to promote commercial cultivation of processable varieties developed by ICAR-IIMR for exports which is expected to promote value addition of millets, a cereal with high nutritive value.
      • They will also create a Millet Export Promotion Forum for identifying export clusters to source sizable quantities of produce and for linking stakeholders with FPO’s would be taken up jointly by the both the organizations of repute.
  4. India and Nepal signed an MoU for the reconstruction of 14 cultural heritage and 103 health sector projects damaged by the devastating 2015 earthquake in the country.

  1. 6th Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Energy was held virtually under the chairmanship of Union Minister of State for Power and Heavy Industries, Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar.
      • During the Meeting, BRICS Energy Report 2021, BRICS Energy Technology Report 2021 and BRICS Energy Research Directory 2021 were launched.
  2. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar represented India at the BRICS ministerial conclave for the implementation of Digital Health.
      • The minister highlighted the performance of iGoT (online training platform of India) to train more than 16 million COVID warriors across the spectrum to manage COVID which includes doctors, paramedic, nurses, community participants etc.
  3. Egypt is hosting the ‘Bright Star’ – a multinational military drill of the Army – with 21 countries on Mohamed Naguib military base at the Mediterranean Sea.
      • The exercise is conducted by Egypt in cooperation with the US every two years.
      • The first edition of the exercise was held in 1980.
  4. The Japan World Stamp Exhibition named ‘Philanippon 2021’ was held.
