      • This is the first shipment to operationalise the Sittwe Port in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.
      • The port has been developed with Indian assistance as part of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project (KMTTP).

• India has developed the Sittwe Port in Myanmar for the construction and operation of a Multimodal Transit Transport Facility on the Kaladan River connecting the Sittwe Port in Myanmar with the state of Mizoram in India.

• This project aims to provide alternate connectivity route to the North-East India through Myanmar.

      • The foodgrains production in 2022-23 crop year ending June is pegged at 323.5 MT.
      • Different crop targets –
        • Pulses – 29.25 MT
        • Oilseeds – 44 MT
        • Millets – 17 MT
        • Sugarcane – 468.8 MT
      • The agriculture sector has witnessed an average annual growth rate of 4.6% over the past six years.
      • To support farmers, the government also plans to convert over 325,000 fertilizer shops into Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras, offering fertilizers, seeds, soil testing, and farming technique information.
      • These announcements were made during the National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign- 2023 at National Agricultural Science Complex, Delhi.

  1. Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and C-Voter International, an Indian international polling agency in Delhi, have released the Global Warming’s Four Indias 2022 report.
      • As per the report, 82% Indians are either “alarmed” or “concerned” about global warming, and favour India’s participation in the Paris Agreement.
      • The remaining 18% are either “cautious” or “disengaged” about these issues.

  2. Cashfree Payments and Yes Bank have launched ‘Global Collections’, an international collection service for exporters, who are account holders of Yes Bank.
      • Under this partnership, the Bank’s account holders will be able to collect payments in over 30 foreign currencies using the Global Collections service.
      • The funds so received can then be converted into INR and settled into their local bank account in India within one business day.

  3. RBI has released its annual “Report on Currency and Finance 2022-23″.
      • The theme of Report on Currency and Finance 2022–23 is ‘Towards a Greener Cleaner India’.
      • It focuses on the challenges and opportunities of climate change for India and the role of the financial sector in achieving a low-carbon and climate-resilient development path.
      • As per the report, green finance comprises financing of green investments and policies that promote mitigation or adaptation.
      • The cumulative total expenditure for adapting to climate change in India is estimated to be Rs 85.6 lakh crore (at 2011-12 prices) by the year 2030.
      • India needs to reduce its energy intensity of GDP by about 5% annually.
      • India needs to increase its green finance spending up to at least 2.5% of GDP annually till 2030.

  4. HDFC Bank launched ‘Vishesh’ its retail banking programme to onboard around 1 lakh new customers from semi-urban and rural areas.
      • HDFC Bank will look to add 675 branches in semi urban and rural areas in FY24 to take the total number to nearly 5,000.
      • As of March 31, 2023, 52% of the bank’s 7,821 branches are in rural and semi urban locations.
      • HDFC Bank already has a ‘Classic’ programme for High-Net-Worth-Individuals where it has customer base of 9 lakh, of which 3 lakhs are in semi urban and rural locations.

  5. India and Russia have announced plans to explore the possibility of accepting RuPay and Mir cards in each other’s country for hassle-free payments amid sanctions imposed by the West on Moscow.
      • The plan was announced during the high-level Internal Governmental Commission meeting on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).
      • The mutual acceptance of RuPay (India) and Mir cards (Russia) will help Indian and Russian citizens to make hassle-free payments in Indian Rupees and Russian Ruble in their respective countries.
      • They also planned the collaboration of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of National Payment Corporation of India and the Faster Payments System (FPS) of the Bank of Russia.

  1. RBI has instructed banks and other financial institutions to ensure cross-border as well as domestic wire transfers contain complete information about the originator and beneficiary.
      • RBI has updated instructions in the Master Direction on Know Your Customer (KYC) related to wire transfers and aligned the same with the relevant recommendation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
      • For the Domestic Wire Transfers of Rs 50,000 and above, the regulated entity would ask for the details of the originator (customer who initiated the payment) and beneficiary information, in case the originator does not have any account with the said regulated entity.

  2. Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has approved the merger of Griha Pte, a wholly owned subsidiary of HDFC Investments in Singapore with HDFC Bank.
      • Last year, the HDFC Bank had agreed to take over the HDFC Ltd in a deal valued at about USD 40 billion.
      • The proposed entity will have a combined asset base of around Rs 18 lakh crore.
      • Every HDFC Ltd’ shareholder will get 42 shares of HDFC Bank for every 25 shares they hold.

  4. Canara Bank, in collaboration with the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), launched the “Digitalised Submission of Form 15G/15H” as one of our customer-friendly services, furthering our commitment to “Customer Delight.”
      • Form 15G (Individual and HUF) and Form 15H (Individual-Senior Citizen) are self-declaration forms that an individual submits to the bank to request that TDS on interest income not be deducted because their income is less than the basic exemption limit.   5. Ministry of Labour & Employment has announced that the additional 1.16% which the employees had to pay to receive higher EPS pension, will now be subsumed under the 12% contribution made by the employees.
      • The 1.16% contribution will be added to the employer’s contribution and therefore, the employer’s contribution towards EPF will rise from 8.33% to 9.49%.
