      • Eligibility criteria for an institute to apply for the status –
        • NAAC ‘A’ grade with at least a 3.01 CGPA for three consecutive cycles or NBA accreditation for 2/3rd of eligible programmes for three consecutive cycles or in the top 50 of any specific categories of NIRF for the last three years continuously or in top 100 of overall NIRF Ranking for last three years continuously
        • Faculty Strength – 150
        • Corpus fund for private institutions – increased from Rs 10 crore to Rs 25 crore

      • The new centre will handle technology development related to structural and earthquake safety of all dams in the country.

  2. Union Health Ministry launched “75/25” initiative which aims to put 75 million people with hypertension and diabetes on Standard Care by 2025, through the Primary Healthcare Center (PHC).
      • The initative was announced on the World Hypertension Day (May 17). Theme of the day was ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer’.
      • This was announced at the G20 co-branded event “Accelerating the Prevention and Management of Hypertension and Diabetes”, organized by Union Health Ministry and WHO.
      • In addition to the 75/25 initiative, the Shashakt Portal was launched for training of 40,000 Primary Health Care Medical Officers on Standard Treatment Workflow for NCDs initiated to realize health care services closer to the community.

      • CSIR-IIIM has developed elite variety (RRL-12) of lavender and agrotechnology of Lavender.
      • Lavender Cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir is being promoted under CSIR-AROMA Mission. Promotion of Lavender is also termed as “Purple Revolution.”
      • In the Doda district, the net annual income of farmers who switched from maize to Lavender cultivation has increased many folds from around Rs. 40,000/- to Rs. 60,000/- per hectare to Rs. 3,50,000/- to Rs. 6,00,000/- per hectare.

• Aroma Mission aims to bring additional area of 30,000 hectares under cultivation of these crops by interventions of CSIR to further catalyse the cultivation of aromatic crops in about 60,000 hectares.
• This will help in production of an additional 700 tonnes of essential oil for perfumery, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries, and use of these oils in value addition and herbal products would generate a business of at least Rs 200 crores.
• CSIR’s Aroma Mission aims to increase the income of the farmers through cultivation of high value and high demand aromatic crops by about Rs. 30,000 to 60,000/ha/year.
• About 45,000 skilled human resource will also be developed in convergence with the “Skill India” initiatives.
