  1. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), along with Ladakh Police, scaled up two unnamed mountain peaks at 6,250 metre and 6,099 metre of height.
      • ITBP named the 6,250 metre peak as Norbu Wangdu Peak in the honour of Late ITBP personnel Norbu Wangdu, who died due to an avalanche in 2019.
      • The summit was made under the force’s Mountaineering Expedition ‘Shikhar’.
  2. Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Kochi has been awarded a project named INDEE+ which aims to accelerate fuel transition in the seafood sector.
      • The project named “INDEE+” is an umbrella project covering several dedicated schemes supporting the Indian refrigeration and air-conditioning sector in the transition towards cleaner and green technologies.
      • INDEE+ is coordinated by Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and the Indian partners are CIFT Kochi; IIT Chennai; BITS Pilani; and IISc Bengaluru.
      • A two-day workshop on “Future Refrigeration India” was also conducted at CIFT.
Fun Fact : At present, the option to the green refrigeration is to use CO2 in it instead of the F-gases (HFC and HCHC). The greenhouse gas impact that F-gases have, is substantially reduced in the CO2. In addition to this, CO2 is released as a by-product of industrial activity. Thus, by capturing this carbon to use it in refrigeration would reduce the impact of carbon emission in the environment as well.

3. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has launched the first indigenous server, Rudra, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

    • Uses of Rudra – The server design can be used for manufacturing classical standalone commercial servers and also as building blocks for building large supercomputing systems of tens of petaflops of computing performance.

4. Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has launched the Project Re-HAB in Assam, after its success in Karnataka.

    • The Project RE-HAB (Reducing Elephant-Human Attacks using Bees) aims to reduce human-animal conflicts.
    • The project was launched at 11 locations in Kodagu district of Karnataka in March 2021.
    • Project RE-HAB is a sub-mission of KVIC’s National Honey Mission.

5. MSME Conclave has been organised by Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, in partnership with Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) in New Delhi.

    • The government aims to achieve the export target of Rs 35,000 crore by 2024-25.

State News

  1. During the Invest Rajasthan Roadshow-Exploring Investment Opportunities in Rajasthan event, which was held in New Delhi, the state signed 145 MoU and Letter of Intent (LoI) worth over Rs 79,000.
  2. Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh, has launched the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) and Banadhikar app in Tripura.
      • The Banadhikar app is a GPS-based mobile application for demarcation of forest ‘patta’ (land rights) for the landless indigenous people under the Forest Rights Act.
      • Tripura is the first state in the country to introduce the Banadhikar App.
      • A unique ID for land will also be generated in favour of the landholders for their convenience.
      • The NGDRS system will allow easy submission of land documents in the state of Tripura.

Defence News

  1. Indian Army conducts ‘Ex-Ekuverin’ with Maldives. 2021 edition will be held in Maldives from December 6 to 19.
      • Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces have been conducting Exercise Ekuverin which means ‘Friends’ in the Dhivehi language since 2009.
  2. During the 2+2 India-Russia meeting, both countries signed an agreement to manufacture nearly 6 lakh AK-203 rifles under a joint venture in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. The deal is worth over Rs 5,000 crore.
      • The AK-203 rifles are a type of the Kalashnikov rifles.
      • Both countries did not sign the reciprocal military logistics support agreement (RELOS).
      • The two countries signed an agreement for military technology cooperation for the next decade — from 2021 to 2031.
      • India and Russia signed 28 agreements, including 9 government-to-government agreements and those that spanned areas of defence, space, finance, power, culture, scientific research, education and health among others.
  3. Indian shipbuilder Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has launched the first large survey vessel named Sandhayak for the Indian Navy.
      • The vessel is the first in the series of four ships being built by GRSE under the Survey Vessel Large (SVL) project.

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has signed an MoU with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) India to strengthen the waste management sector in India under the Swachh Bharat Mission- Urban 2.0.
      • The MoU will be operational for a period of five years (2021-26).
      • Under the MoU, UNDP will help in setting up 75 Smart Swachhata Kendras across the country.
      • UNDP will support the ministry in enrolling the informal waste pickers in various welfare schemes. Also, the support will be provided in digitizing the waste flow and streamlining activities in Swachhata Kendras.

International News

  1. NASA has launched a new mission called Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE).
      • The IXPE Observatory is NASA’s first mission dedicated to measuring the polarization of X-rays from the most extreme and mysterious objects in the universe.
      • The observatory was launched successfully on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre.
      • IXPE is an international collaboration between NASA, the Italian Space Agency, along with partners and providers in 12 other countries.
      • Study of the polarisation of light gives insights into the origin / sources of origin of the light.

  1. RBI has released its ‘Handbook of Statistics on Indian States’ 2021
      • The report provides data about states across different verticals like Agriculture, Industry, State Domestic Product, Socio-Demographic indicators, Prices and Wages, Infrastructure, Banking, and Fiscal Performance of States.
      • Largest Manufacturing Hub – Gujarat (by replacing Maharashtra)
        • Gujarat’s Gross Value Addition (GVA) in Manufacturing grew 15.9% annually on average between FY12 and FY20 to touch Rs 5.11 lakh crore.
      • Worst Performers in terms of Manufacturing – Rajasthan, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (in descending order)
      • Top 5 Services Hub – Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, UP and West Bengal
        • Telangana is at 7th position but it was the second fastest growing service economy in the country.

      • The eminent Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava teaches at the University of California, Berkeley.
      • Along with Srivastava, the two other awardees are Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman.
      • The prize will be presented to Professor Srivastava and his colleagues at 2022 Joint Mathematics Meeting in Seattle, which is also described as “the largest mathematics gathering in the world.”
  3. Equitas Small Finance Bank is mentioned in the Honourable Mentions of Category under the Best Bank for Women Entrepreneurs.
      • The Best Bank for Women Entrepreneurs awards are given to BRAC Bank, and Access.
