      • Chairperson – Pawan Goenka (former Mahindra CEO)
      • Total members – 14
      • Purpose of the committee – It has facilitated the development of two dozen working groups to address specific issues to accelerate local manufacturing.
      • Formed by – The SCALE Committee is formed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been working closely with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the guidance of the ministry.
  2. Parliament has passed the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill to accord the status of ‘institute of national importance’ to six more institutes of pharmaceutical education and research.
      • These Institutes are situated in Ahmedabad, Hajipur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati and Raebareli.
      • The bill also provides for setting up an advisory council to coordinate the activities of all the institutes to ensure coordinated development of pharmaceutical education and research and maintenance of standards.
      • The Bill reduces the number of Board of Governors of each NIPER from its existing strength of 23 to 12 member.

  1. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has launched ‘Revival of Namda craft of Kashmir as a special pilot project under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 0′ to revive and promote traditional ‘Namda’ craft in Jammu and Kashmir.
      • The govt aims to increase the carpet export from J&K from ₹600 crore to ₹6,000 crore.
      • Namda is a rug made of sheep wool through felting technique instead of normal weaving process.
      • Another project ‘Upskilling of artisans and weavers of Kashmir under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), component of PMKVY’ was also launched.
        • RPL refers to an assessment process used to evaluate a person’s existing skill sets, knowledge and experience gained either by formal, non-formal or informal learning.

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) and the CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), Lucknow have signed an MoU for extending joint collaborative efforts to promote the production of quality planting material of medicinal plants.
