      • The IARI had distributed 1 kg per acre seeds of the newly developed disease resistant Basmati rice to farmers during the Krishi Vigya Mela held at Pusa, New Delhi earlier this year for cultivation.

  2. International Finance Corporation has launched a new $6 billion financing facility to strengthen the private sector’s ability to respond to the crisis and help support food production.
      • This financing will be provided through the new Global Food Security Platform to support sustainable production and delivery of food stocks to countries affected by food instability.
      • The $6 billion fund will be used to support private sector companies along the food value chain by leveraging IFC’s sectoral expertise in agribusiness, manufacturing, infrastructure, and technology, as well as the financial sector and trade finance.
  3. UN General Assembly’s 77th session was organized on the theme of “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges”.
      • International Finance Facility for Education was launched with initial funding of $2 billion. The facility will expand to $10 billion by 2030.
      • 4th India-CARICOM (Caribbean Community and Common Market) Foreign Ministers’ meeting was also organized on the sidelines of the UNGA.
