      • The programme was held in collaboration with Rhambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (an NPO), Thane, Maharashtra.
  4. Ministry of Civil Aviation and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has mandated self-declaration by travellers on the Air Suvidha Portal to ensure the smooth passage of international travellers arriving in India.
      • The first of its kind Air Suvidha portal was launched in August 2020 to provide hassle-free, queue free, and convenient air travel to all international passengers arriving in India.
      • The portal aids passengers in providing their details of travel and final stay along with RT-PCR, Vaccination status etc.
  5. India and USA have taken over the Vice-Chairmanship of the Global Methane Initiative’s (GMI) Steering Committee.
      • Steering Committee of the GMI is responsible for policy formulation. The Secretariate – hosted by the United States, at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. – implements the policies.
      • GMI chair – Canada’s Helen Ryan
      • Vice-chair – India’s Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Shri V.K. Tiwari; and US’s Tomás Carbonell.

State News

  1. Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a $150 million loan agreement with the Central Govt to provide access to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable housing for the urban poor in the state of Tamil Nadu.
      • In addition, ADB will provide a $1.5 million technical assistance (TA) grant from its Technical Assistance Special Fund to support the capacity building of government agencies responsible for delivering affordable housing and regional planning in Tamil Nadu.
  2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three mega projects in Uttar Pradesh.
      • Projects include
        • AIIMS- Gorakhpur (which is the constituency of Yogi Adityanath)
        • Fertiliser plant in Gorakhpur (operated by Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited (HURL)
        • Regional Medical Research Centre of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in Gorakhpur
      • Total cost of the three projects – Rs 9600 crores.

Defence News

  1. DRDO has developed and tested the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the Odisha coast.
      • The VL-SRSAM has been developed for the Indian Navy.
      • The missile has been designed to strike at the high-speed airborne targets at the range of 40 to 50 km and at an altitude of around 15 km.
      • Its design is based on Astra missile which is a Beyond Visual Range Air to Air missile.

      • India is among the 11 High Burden to High Impact (HBHI) initiative countries, which share the highest burden of malaria.
      • WHO initiated the HBHI initiative in 2018 to reduce malaria via a country-led approach.
      • 11 high burden countries are Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, and India.
  2. India and HBHI performance in 2020 –
      • All HBHI countries, except India, showed an increase in malaria cases and deaths.
      • The rate of reduction of malaria cases and deaths has been reduced in India in comparison to the pre-pandemic levels.
      • By 2020, the HBHI (11 countries) accounted for 67% of total malaria cases and 71% of total malaria deaths worldwide.

4. India’s Steps to Eliminate Malaria:

    • India is a signatory to the Ministerial Declaration on Accelerating and Sustaining Malaria Elimination in the South-East Asia Region, which was signed in New Delhi by health ministers of countries of the WHO South-East Asia Region.
    • The National Framework for Malaria Elimination (NFME) 2016–2030 was launched in February 2016 by India’s Minister for Health.
    • India’s participation in the HBHI initiative of WHO.

      • PayPhi is Phi Commerce’s API-first digital payments platform.
