  1. India has joined the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC) during the COP 27 of UNFCCC at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt.
      • Other members of the alliance – Australia, Japan, Spain, and Sri Lanka
      • It will help India in achieving its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to create an additional carbon sink of 2.5- 3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent, through additional forest and tree cover by 2030.
      • According to the State of the World’s Mangroves report 2022, the human-driven loss represents 62% of total losses of over 600 square kilometres or 60,000 hectares from 2010 to 2020.
      • India accounts for over 50% of total mangrove cover in South Asia.
      • As per the Forest Survey report 2021, the top three states showing an increase in mangroves cover are Odisha (8 km2), Maharashtra (4 km2), and Karnataka (3 km2).

  1. Kerala has become the first state in India to launch uniform price on 916 purity 22 carat gold based on the bank rate.
      • The gold rate should be uniform across the country based on bank rate. However, in most states, gold is priced Rs 150-300 per gram extra over the bank rate.
      • Uniform gold price based on bank rate offers an opportunity to the consumers to purchase gold at a reasonable and transparent price.
  2. Hyderabad has established India’s largest Miyawaki forest.
      • This micro forest adopts the technique of a Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, who, in the 1970s, began to plant young native plant species — trees, shrubs, and grasses — in tight groves to restore degraded lands. Saplings planted close together grow rapidly as they compete for light.
  3. Goa has launched Mukhyamantri Devdarshan Yatra Yojana to offer free of cost pilgrimage service to senior citizens of the state to Tirupati shrine.

      • Kerala Startup Mission shall be given 2% royalty for the product being commercialized, which shall be limited to the amount supported by the Kerala Startup Mission under the scheme.
      • The Startup is expected to commercialize the product for which the license /technology is purchased within a period of 2 years.
