1. Ecuador has launched the “Galapagos Bond” (blue bond) for the conservation of the Galapagos Islands, which are located some 600 miles (970 km) off Ecuador’s mainland coast,
   • This is the world’s largest “debt-for-nature” swap on record.
   • Credit Suisse (Swiss company) has announced buying Ecuadorian bonds worth $1.6 billion (€1.45 billion) in a debt-for-nature swap.
   • The new bond has an $85 million ‘credit guarantee’ from the Inter-American Development Bank and $656 million of political risk insurance from the U.S. International Development Finance Corp (DFC), effectively making it less risky.
   • The bond will have a coupon rate of 5.645%.

   • 13.4 million babies were born preterm in 2020 (9.9% of all live births).

   IRDAI’s State Insurance Plan –

   • In March 2023, IRDAI has announced to roll out the insurance plans for all States along with identifying a lead insurer for each district.
   • IRDAI aims to enable insurance for all by 2047, where every citizen has an appropriate life, health and property insurance cover, and every enterprise is supported by appropriate insurance solutions.
   • A state level co-ordination committee, consisting of insurers, state government officials and representatives of the IRDAI, will monitor the implementation of the state insurance plans.
   • There will be two lead Insurers in each district for both life and non-life sectors.
   • As per IRDAI estimates, the insurance industry is estimated to have registered about 18% growth in FY23.

5. Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Uttar Pradesh has been awarded the country’s prestigious HUDCO Award (2022-2023).
   • The award given on the 53rd Foundation Day of Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO).
   • This award has been given in the Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment 2022-23 category for cleanliness. Rs 1 lakh was also given to the UP government as part of the award.
   • J&K has won two awards including ‘Overall best performing Union Territory’ and ‘Best Performing UT for implementation of Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs)’.
