   • The report estimates that ensuring safely managed drinking water for all households in the country could avert nearly 400,000 deaths caused by diarrheal diseases and prevent approximately 14 million Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) related to these diseases.

   • Regulated entities (RE) shall ensure that the total default guarantee shall not exceed 5% of the portfolio amount.
   • FLDG is the guarantee that an unregulated entity offers to regulated lenders.
   • RBI has announced that banks and NBFCs are allowed to enter FLDG arrangements with regulated entities as well as other loan service providers (LSP). Source: ET
2. RBI has overhauled regulations governing one-time settlements (OTS) with defaulters and technical write-offs of loans to harmonise the instructions across all regulated entities.
   • RBI has asked all regulated entities (REs) to put in place board-approved policies for OTS.
   • Compromise settlements where the time for payment of the agreed settlement amount exceeds three months shall be treated as restructuring.
   • Compromise settlements and technical write-offs approved by the MD & CEO or board level committee would be reported to the board.

6. Reserve Bank has notified four key measures to strengthen framework for 1,514 urban co-operative banks in India.
   • UCBs can now open new branches up to 10% (maximum 5 branches) of the number of branches in the previous financial year without prior approval of RBI in their approved area of operation.
   • UCBs can also do One-Time Settlement with their borrowers, just like the commercial banks.
   • Now co-operative banks through board-approved policies may provide process for technical write-off as well as settlement with borrowers.
   • The RBI has extended the timeline for UCBs to achieve Priority Sector Lending (PSL) targets by two years i.e., up to March 31, 2026.
     • The deadline to achieve PSL target of 60%, which was March 31, 2023, has also been extended to March 31, 2024.
     • UCBs would not be required to contribute to Rural infrastructure development fund (RIDF) or other eligible funds for shortfall in PSL target/ sub-targets during Financial Year (FY) 2020-21 and FY 2021-22.
     • UCBs shall contribute to RIDF and other eligible funds against their shortfall in PSL target/ sub-targets vis-à-vis the prescribed targets with effect from March 31, 2023.
     • Also, in case contribution has been already made by any UCB towards the above PSL shortfall during the FY 2020-21 and/ or FY 2021-22, that contribution can be used to meet any shortfall that may have occurred during FY 2022-23. Excess deposit, if any, after utilising the PSL shortfall during FY 2022-23 will be refunded to the UCBs.

   • Infosys is at the 2nd spot with a brand value of $13 billion. It was followed by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) with a value of $9.7 billion.
   • Notably, Tata Group is the only Indian brand to feature in the top 100 of the Brand Finance Global 500 2023.

1. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has created history by surpassing compatriot Bishan Singh Bedi to become the country’s most successful left-arm spinner in the history of Test cricket.
   • Jadeja accomplished this during India’s ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval, England.
   • India has lost this match against Australia by 209 runs. This was the 2nd edition of the World Test Championship. The first edition was won by New Zealand by defeating India.
   • It is the 9th ICC title of Australia.
   • Australia became the first men’s team in world cricket to win an International Cricket Council (ICC) world title in all three formats.
