  1. Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Giriraj Singh, has released the Report on “Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Panchayati Raj Institutions”.
      • The Ministry also launched two portals –
        • Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) Monitoring Dashboard on monitoring the progress of GPDP,
        • Training Management Portal on Capacity Building and Training of Elected Representatives and Functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions
      • In addition to this, a Handbook on Training Management Portal was also released.
      • In May 2021, an Expert Group was constituted by the Ministry to recommend measures for Localization of SDGs at the Panchayat level.
  2. Saryu Canal National Project has been inaugurated in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh.
      • The project’s cost is Rs 9,802 crore.
      • The project is expected to benefit 50 lakh farmers in eastern UP. It’s irrigational capacity is estimated at 4.04 lakh hectares.
      • Five rivers namely Ghagra, Rapti, Banganga, Saryu and Rohini have been connected under this project.
  3. India has received a loan of $350 million from Asian Development Bank to improve its urban services.
      • The loan supports the policies established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to accelerate universal coverage of piped water supply and improve sanitation.
      • The loan will be used for Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 0 and to provide affordable housing under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana.
      • According to ADB, India’s current estimated urban population of 460 million (46 crore) is the second-largest in the world and is projected to reach nearly 600 million (60 crore) by 2030, growing at an annual rate of over 2%.

State News

  1. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has launched the ‘Milk Price Incentive Scheme’ to increase the milk production in the state to match the demand of milk and milk products in the state.
      • It is Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) scheme under which the amount will go the bank accounts of dairy farmers.
      • Ganga Cow Scheme is another state scheme for enhancing milk production. Under the scheme, incentive of Rs 3-4 per litre of milk is given by state to the farmers.
  2. NITI Aayog has announced to establish 1000 Atal Tinkering Laboratories in Jammu and Kashmir UT.
      • Of these, 187 will be established by the end of FY22.
  3. Madhya Pradesh government has implemented a Police Commissionerate System in Bhopal and
      • The Additional Director General (ADG) rank officers will be appointed as commissioners.
      • Now, the commissioner will have powers under Police Act 1861, Prisoners Act 1900, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act 1967, Poisons Act 1919, Motor Vehicles Act 1988, MP State Security Act 1990 and Official Secrets Act 1926.
      • Under the Police Commissionerate System, the Police Commissioner is given magisterial powers for faster decision making.
      • Bhopal and Indore, the first cities of MP to get the system, have joined the list of 71 cities in the country that currently have the police commissionerate system.
  4. Chennai has announced its plan to become a ‘sponge city’ e., to adopt innovative water management strategies to curb the urban flooding.
      • Sponge cities are developed in such a manner that they can absorb more water and percolate that to aquifers.

International News

  1. South Korea has unveiled the hypersonic missile prototype named Hycore.
      • Using it, South Korea will test its hypersonic cruise missile in 2022.
  2. Chile has allowed the same-sex couples to marry and adopt
      • Now, 30 countries worldwide have legalised the same-sex marriages.
      • Although, India has struck down the Section 377 of Indian Penal Code, legalising the consensual intercourse between homosexuals; still, the legal recognition has not been given to the same-sex marriages in India.
  3. 2022 Presidency of G20 is presumed by Indonesia.
