  1. First ever India Internet Governance Forum will be hosted by Ministry of Electronics and IT in October 2021.
      • Theme – Inclusive Internet for Digital India
      • IIGF is the Indian version of UN’s Internet Governance Forum.
      • The India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) will be constituted by around 12 members from across the government, civil society, industry and associations and will be led by Anil Kumar Jain, CEO of the National Internet Exchange of India.
  2. Indore, India’s cleanest city, has become the first ‘water plus’ city of India under the Swachh Survekshan 2021.
      • ‘Water plus’ certification is given for maintaining cleanliness in rivers and drains.
      • Criteria for getting the certificate – dirty water should not go into any river or drain. 30% of the city’s sewer water has to be recycled and reused. Public toilets must be connected to sewer lines and must be cleaned.
  3. Lok Sabha has passed the 127th Constitutional Amendment Bill to empower states to make their own OBC lists.
      • After enactment, this bill will become the 105th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2021.
      • The 102nd Constitutional Amendment Act of 2018, inserted article 338B to make National Commission for Backward Classes, a constitutional body.
        • Article 342A was also inserted to give powers to the President to notify a particular caste as Socially and Educationally Backward Communities (SEBCs) and the power of Parliament to change the list.
        • Article 366 (26C) defines SEBCs.
      • A constitutional amendment bill requires a special majority (2/3rds members present) for passage in both houses of Parliament.
  4. India’s first National Heart Failure Biobank (NHFB) has been opened at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Kerala.
      • The Biobank would collect blood, biopsies, and clinical data as a guide to future therapies.

  1. Indian and Saudi Arabian Navies conducted their first bilateral exercise named Al-Mohed Al-Hindi 2021.
      • INS Kochi (built by Mazagaon Dock Ltd) reached Port-Al-Jubail to participate in this exercise.
      • Army Chief MM Naravane announced that Indian Army and Saudi Army will conduct an exercise in the later half of 2021, during his visit to the country in 2020.
  2. Indian Navy has deployed INS Shivalik and INS Kadmatt to Muara, Brunei for bilateral collaborations.
  3. INS Khanjar has become the first Indian Navy ship to call at the heritage coastal port of Gopalpur in Odisha.
      • The operation was to create awareness about coastal and maritime security.

Memorandum Of Understanding

  1. India and US have signed an agreement for improving weather forecasts in the region by monsoon data analysis.
      • Parties to the MoU – India’s National Institute of Ocean Technology and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
      • These two organizations would enhance technical cooperation in the development of the Research Moored Array for African-Asian-Australian Monsoon Analysis and Prediction (RAMA) and the Ocean Moored buoy Network in the northern Indian ocean (OMNI) for improving weather and monsoon forecasts between NOAA and India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences.
      • The agreement is a follow up to the MoU signed between the Ministry of Earth Sciences and NOAA in October 2020 for Technical Cooperation in Earth Observations and Earth Sciences.
  2. North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. has signed an MoU with Federation of Industries of North-Eastern Region (FINER) for promoting entrepreneurship in the North-East Region.

Youth Index

Observations:

    • Youth make up 25% of the global working-age population, yet they account for 40% of total unemployment. Young people are almost three times more likely to be unemployed than adults.
    • The global average youth development score improved by 3.1% between 2010 and 2018. The average improvement in Commonwealth countries was 2.8%.
    • Of the 181 countries included on the 2020 YDI, 156 or 86%, recorded improvements in the eight year period.
    • In 5 out of 6 domains, improvements were recorded in all countries. Largest improvement was in Health and Wellbeing at 4.39% during 2010-18.
    • Political and Civic Participation was the only domain to record an average global deterioration.
    • On average, the Commonwealth has made progress in all domains, with the largest improvement seen in the Health and Wellbeing, Peace and Security and Education domains. 40 out of 48 countries improved their scores.
    • South Asia recorded the largest improvement in its average youth development levels, at 9.5%.
    • The top five risers from 2010 to 2018 were Afghanistan, India, Russia, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso.
    • Syria, Ukraine, Libya, Yemen and Jordan were the largest fallers.

      • The entire loan would be eligible for coverage under Credit Guarantee Fund for Micro Units (CGFMU).

      • The Honour FIRST Defence account comes with a range of privileges and features such as a zero balance salary account that earns up to 5% interest per annum, personal Accident Insurance Cover of Rs 46 lakhs and many more.
  5. Asian Development Bank has partnered with IIFL Home Finance for promoting green housing in India.
      • As part of the partnership, the ADB will promote green lending and climate adaptation strategies in the field of affordable housing in India.
      • The total cost of this initiative is pegged at $1 million and will be provided by ADB’s Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund.
      • IIFL will also contribute an additional $0.15 million towards other costs.
  6. India Insurtech Association (IIA), an NPO, has signed an MoU with International Financial Services Centre to collaborate on promoting GIFT City for Indian and foreign insurance companies.
      • Both organization will also work on building thought leadership in the field of insurance.
      • The two institutions will also research regulatory sandbox projects for GIFT IFSC.
      • The IIA will also work for bringing global insurance businesses, Indian insurtech companies, and insurance players to the GIFT City.
