      • CLASS was built at ISRO’s UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru.

      • The training will be provided on various technical courses including cloud and data analytics, blockchain, Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Agriculture and Rural Development

  1. Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Minister: Piyush Goyal) has extended the timeline for disbursement of loans under the “Scheme for extending financial assistance to sugar mills for enhancement and augmentation of ethanol production capacity” till March 31, 2023.
      • The scheme was first notified in 2018 to facilitate entrepreneurs to complete their projects.
      • The ministry has asked the beneficiaries of the scheme to complete the projects within two and a half years from the date of disbursement of the first instalment of loan from the bank.
      • Currently, interest subvention at 6% per annum or 50% of the rate of interest charged by banks, whichever is lower, is available to sugar mills for five years, including a one-year moratorium.
      • Ethanol production capacities are required to be enhanced to about 1,016 crore litres per annum to achieve a 20% blending target by 2025.

      • The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) was conducting this exercise in the Central Asian country from October 10 to 14.
      • CSTO is a 6-member security alliance among Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

      • CSTO is a security alliance. It also works against drug smuggling, illegal migration, border infiltration etc. It also works for increasing military cooperation and assisting disaster relief work.

  1. World Economic Forum (WEF) has released the ‘Education 4.0 Report’, in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) and YuWaah (Generation Unlimited India).
      • According to this report, the school-to-work (S2W) transition process is facing many hurdles in India.
        • School-to-work (S2W) transition refers to the process of making students job-ready in a rapidly evolving employment landscape.
      • India has more than 60 million secondary and higher secondary students, but 85% of schools are yet to implement vocational courses as part of their curriculum.
      • The Education 4.0 India initiative was launched in May 2020 and has convened over 40 partners from the education technology, government, academic and start-up communities.
        • The initiative focuses on how the fourth industrial revolution technologies can enhance learning and reduce inequalities in access to education among children in India.
  2. UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization released the “Global Forest Sector Outlook 2050” report at the 26th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization Committee on Forestry in Rome (its headquarters).
      • Consumption of primary processed wood products is expected to increase to 1 billion cubic metres (BCM) by 2050 from 2.2 BCM in 2020.
      • There are 45 million ha agroforestry and 7 million ha rubber plantations across the globe, which can be further increased during agricultural expansion for food production.
