  1. Cental govt has launched the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) – Ujjwala 2.0.
      • Along with a deposit-free LPG connection, Ujjwala 2.0 will provide the first refill and hotplate free of cost to the beneficiaries.
      • The enrolment procedure will require minimum paperwork and in Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or address proof.
      • In the Union Budget for 2021-22, provision for an additional 1 crore LPG connection under the scheme was announced.
      • This 1 crore additional connections under Ujjwala 2.0 aim to provide deposit-free LPG connections to those low-income families who could not be covered under the earlier phase of PMUY.
      • Ujjwala 1.0 was launched in 2016.
  2. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released the 4th Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS-4), India- 2019.
      • The report assesses tobacco use among school going children aged 13-15 years at the state level and Union Territory (UT) by sex, location of school (rural-urban), and management of school (public-private).
      • GYTS-4 was conducted in 2019 by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) under the MoHFW.
      • There has been a 42% decline in tobacco use among 13- 15-year-old school going children in the last decade.
      • Tobacco use among school going children was highest in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram (58% each) and lowest in Himachal Pradesh (1.1%) and Karnataka (1.2%).
  3. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Global Environment Facility, has launched loan interest subvention scheme for organic waste to energy bio- methanation projects.
      • Under the scheme, financial assistance will be provided to innovative waste to energy bio- methanation projects and business models.
      • Innovations in such projects seek to improve overall energy output thereby minimising the cost of energy generation.
  4. 2021 Census (16th Census of India) will be the first ever digital census of India.
      • Central govt has announced that it will not conduct Socio Economic and Caste Census in this census.
      • For the first time, data on households run by transgender community will be collected in the census.
      • The data will be made available by 2024-25.
      • In Union Budget 2021-22, over Rs 3,768 crores were allocated to the Census 2021.
  5. Central govt has permitted Team CLAW to lead a team of people with disabilities to scale Siachen Glacier and create a new world record for the largest team of people with disabilities to scale the world’s highest battlefield- Siachen Glacier.
      • This expedition will be led by a team of retired special forces personnel under CLAW Global.
      • The expedition is part of the Operation Blue Freedom. The operation was launched in 2019 for helping PwD people learn about adventurous skills.
      • CLAW (Conquer Land Air Water) Global was set up in January 2019 by Major Vivek Jacob, a Para SF officer, for teaching adventure to PwD. CLAW is a team of ex-Indian Special Forces commandos.

      • The system will be launched in collaboration with HDFC Bank.
