  1. Ministry of Tourism (MoT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has launched the 5th training program under the Amrit Dharohar Capacity Building Scheme in Chilika Lake, Odisha.
      • Key points-
        • Two training programmes of 15 days each namely the Alternative Livelihood program (ALP), and the Paryatan Navik Certificate (PNC) will be conducted.
        • A total of 60 participants (30 for each course) were identified from the local communities in and around Chilika Lake to impart trainings and subsequently certifying them as nature-guides.
        • It is part of the ongoing effort of enhancing livelihood opportunities for local communities through harnessing the nature-tourism potential of the Ramsar Sites across the country under the Amrit Dharohar Initiative of the MoEF&CC.

      • Objective-
        • To bring better compliance with quality standards.

      • What is Schedule M?
        • Schedule M prescribes the good manufacturing practices (GMP) for pharmaceutical products.
      • Major changes introduced in the revised Schedule M include-
        • Introduction of a pharmaceutical quality system (PQS),
        • Quality risk management (QRM), product quality review (PQR),
        • Qualification and validation of equipment, and
        • Computerised storage system for all drug products
      • How revised regulations of Schedule M will help ?
        • It will enhance adherence to global quality standards, ensuring the production of safe and effective drugs for the benefit of patients and the industry.
      • How new rules will be implemented?
        • Revised rules will be implemented on the basis of company turnovers.
        • Medium and small manufacturers with an annual turnover of less than Rs 250 crore will have to implement the revised rules within 12 months from its date of publication.
        • Large manufacturers with an annual turnover of over Rs 250 crore will be given 6 months to do so.

  2. Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has submitted proposals for Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands for cities of Indore, Bhopal and Udaipur.
      • Key points-
        • These are the first 3 Indian cities for which nominations have been submitted for WCA.
        • Nominations are based on the proposals received from respective State Wetlands Authorities in collaboration with the Municipal Corporations.
      • What is Wetland City Accreditation (WCA)?
        • It is a voluntary accreditation system established by the Ramsar Convention during the Conference of Parties (COP) 12, 2015.
        • Objective-
          • To promote the conservation and wise use of urban and peri-urban wetlands and recognize cities which have taken exceptional steps to safeguard their urban wetlands.
        • For the Wetland City Accreditation, city should satisfy the standards used to implement each of the 6 international criteria mentioned Operational Guidance for WCA of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

      • Wetlands which are situated in and around the nominated Indian cities are
        • Indore (Madhya Pradesh)Sirpur Wetland (Ramsar site) and Yashwant Sagar (Ramsar site)
        • Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)Bhoj Wetland (Ramsar site)
        • Udaipur (Rajasthan)– City is surrounded by 5 major wetlands, namely, Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai
