  1. Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has notified the area around the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (in Maharashtra) as an Eco Sensitive Zone (ESZ).
      • This will act as a buffer for protected areas and reduces developmental pressures around a wildlife sanctuary or national park.
  2. The name of Miyon ka Bara railway station in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur has been changed to Mahesh Nagar.

  3. Haryana has conducted a three-day Monkey Census – Wildlife Census for Haryana 2021 – and documented approximately 6,000 monkeys on a specially designed mobile application by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).

International News

  1. NASA and Axiom Space have signed an order for the first private astronaut mission to the International Space Station by January 2022 tentatively.
      • The spaceflight, named as Axiom Mission 1 (Ax-1), will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and travel to the International Space Station.
      • Under the agreement, Axiom will send its astronauts to ISS.
      • India is also planning to launch its own space station by 2030.
  2. NASA’s Perseverance will detect the Jezero Crater on Mars by using WATSON camera.
      • This crater will help scientists create a timeline of when an ancient lake formed there, when it dried, and when sediment began piling up in the delta that formed in the crater long ago.
      • This will help in finding the ancient microbes.

      • NITI Aayog and Mastercard released a report titled ‘Connected Commerce: Creating a Roadmap for a Digitally Inclusive Bharat’.
      • One prominent measure provided in this report is to enable agricultural NBFCs to access low-cost capital and deploy a ‘phygital’ (physical + digital) model for achieving better long-term digital outcomes. Digitizing land records will also provide a major boost to the sector.

  1. Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched Asia Pacific Tax Hub as a regional hub to improve tax collection and curb practices like Base Erosion and Profit Sharing and Tax Evasion in the Asia-Pacific region.
      • The Hub will facilitate cooperation among the Ministry of Finance and Tax Authorities of the developing member countries, international organizations like IMF, World Bank, OCED etc, and regional tax associations.
      • The Hub will also stimulate strategic dialogue among partners for promoting the formulation of country-specific revenue strategies and developing innovative technical assistance programs.
      • The Hub will be focussed upon Domestic Resource Mobilisation and International Tax Cooperation.
      • The hub will organise a first high-level conference by the fourth quarter of 2021.

  1. Muthoot Finance Limited has collaborated with NIRA (Bengaluru-based fintech) to strengthen its digital footprint.
      • Through this partnership, salaried customers can avail a personal loan of up to ₹1 lakh from Muthoot by downloading the NIRA app from Google’s Play store.
      • NIRA offers small ticket personal loans to salaried workers from India’s middle class. They offer loans to borrowers starting at incomes as low as ₹12,000 per month
  2. Federal Bank has partnered with Mashreq Bank (based in UAE) to facilitate money transfers from the UAE.
      • Mashreq is one of the oldest banks and also the only privately-owned bank in that country.
      • The partnership will support Mashreq’s faster payment product, QuickRemit, which was launched in 2017.
      • Mashreq customers can enjoy substantial savings as well as continue to send money instantaneously to India from the convenience of their homes or offices.
  3. PayPal (American online payments company) has introduced an automated process to obtain monthly foreign inward remittance advice (FIRA), allowing Indian merchants to download their monthly digital FIRA issued by banks.
      • FIRA is a document that acts as a proof for all the payments and inward remittances from a foreign country.
      • It is issued by banks in India. The exporters of all sizes have to get this.

      • She won the award for her recent book Arabic Oration: Art and Function, published by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden in 2019.
      • Dr Tahera Qutbuddin is the first person from India to win the prestigious prize.
      • She won the award in ‘Arab Culture in Other Languages Award’ category.
      • Sheikh Zayed Book Award is a literary award begun in the UAE.
      • Along with her, many other awardees were felicitated in the award ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
  2. Justice Gita Mittal has become the first Indian to receive the Arline Pacht Global Vision Award for 2021.
      • The award is given by International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ).
      • The other recipient of the award this year is Margarita Luna Ramos from Mexico.
