State News

  1. Delhi has launched ‘faceless’ transport services and became the first state or Union territory in the country to bring all transport-related services online.
      • The ‘faceless’ transportation services will not allow a person to apply for a permanent driving license and vehicle fitness certificate in a similar manner.
  2. Uttar Pradesh govt has launched the Rashtriya Swasthaya Sevak Abhiyan to train the health workers.
      • Under the Rashtriya Swasthya Sevak Abhiyan, two lakh volunteers will be trained in the state on Health Warrior Portal.
  3. Maharashtra govt has instituted the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Excellence in IT Sector which will be given to companies for outstanding performance in the information technology sector.
      • The award will be given on August 20 every year, on the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

  1. DRDO has developed and tested Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile off the coast of Odisha’s Balasore district.
      • The missile is equipped with an indigenously turbofan engine named Manik.
      • It is an advanced version of Nirbhaya – a subsonic cruise missile.
      • The missile flew for around 150 km with an indigenous cruise engine.

  1. 11th annual meeting of the Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA) was inaugurated by Sushil Chandra (Indian Chief Election Commissioner and present chairperson of FEMBoSA).
      • Theme – ‘Use of Technology in Elections’
      • The virtual meeting was hosted by Bhutan.
      • Bhutan is the chair of FEMBoSA in 2021-22. Therefore, the Chief Election Commissioner of Bhutan, Dasho Sonam Topgay was given the charge by Sushil Chandra.
      • Thimphu Resolution was adopted to extend the tenure of Chairmanship of FEMBoSA for two years during the pandemic.
  2. About FEMoBSA:

      • FEMBoSA was established at the 3rd Conference of Heads of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of SAARC Countries in 2012.
      • Annual meetings are held by chair country.

  1. The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), chaired by Bibek Debroy, has released the Quality of Life for Elderly Index 2021.
      • Institute for Competitiveness, India has prepared this index at the request of EAC-PM.
      • National Elderly Policy defines people in the 60+ age group as elderly.
Purpose of the index • The index assesses the problems faced by the elderly. It identifies the regional patterns of ageing across Indian States and assesses the overall ageing situation in India.
• The Index broadens the way we understand the needs and the opportunities of the elderly population in India.
Parameters • The index has 4 pillars (Financial Well-being, Social Well-being, Health System and Income Security) and,
• 8 sub-pillars (Economic Empowerment, Educational Attainment & Employment, Social Status, Physical Security, Basic Health, Psychological Well-being, Social Security and Enabling Environment).
Categories of states for ranking • Aged states - (means more than 5 million people are above 60); (total 10 states)
• Relatively Aged States - population (means less than 5 million elderly people); (total 10 states)
• UT (total 8 UTs); Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are taken as separate UTs.
• North-East States (total 8 states)
Rankings (Top Performers) • Aged states – Rajasthan has the highest Aged population, followed by Maharashtra.
• Relatively Aged States – Himachal Pradesh, followed by Uttarakhand.
• UT – Chandigarh, followed by Dadra & Nagar Haveli
•North-East States – Mizoram, followed by Meghalaya

Need of the index • The share of elders, as a percentage of the total population in the country, is expected to increase from around 7.5% in 2001 to almost 12.5% by 2026, and surpass 19.5% by 2050.
• Therefore, it is important to gather data about the needs of the elderly population for policy formulation.

  2. Arya (an Agritech start-up) has partnered with SBM Bank India for commodity financing to help farmers and entities engaged in agriculture.
      • SBM Bank India is part of Mauritius-based SBM group. The bank is headquartered in Mumbai and has presence across the top-six metropolitan cities of the country.
  3. Secondary Loan Market Association (SLMA) has been formed by 10 major banks in India on the recommendation of RBI’s Task Force on the Development of Secondary Market for Corporate Loans.
        • SLMA is a self-regulatory body that aims to promote growth of secondary market for loans in India.
        • Members of SLMA are SBI, ICICI, Canara, Standard Chartered Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Deutsche Bank, Bank of Baroda, PNB, Axis Bank and HDFC Bank.
        • SLMA will facilitate, promote and set up an online system for the standardisation and simplification of primary loan documentation, and standardisation of documentation for the purchase and sale/assignment documentation and other trading mechanisms for the secondary loan market and its documentation.
  4. RBI has announced a penalty for banks and non-banking entities (White label ATMs) if the automated teller machines (ATMs), operated by them run out of cash for more than 10 hours a month.
      • Penalty will be worth Rs 10,000 penalty per ATM.
      • Earlier in June, RBI allowed banks to raise charges on using ATM machines to Rs 21 per transaction from January 1, 2022. It was Rs 20 per transaction earlier.
  5. Renew Power has acquired 99 MW Singoli Bhatwari hydroelectric project on Mandakini river in Uttarakhand.
      • The company has also acquired 260 MW solar project in Telangana.

      • PNGRB comprises a chairman and four members, including one member legal.
