      • Welspun Corp is based in Mumbai.
      • It is the first company from India to join the H2Pipe Joint Industry Project on Hydrogen Pipelines, launched by leading industrial certification body DNV AS Energy Systems Pipeline Technology (HQ in Norway).
      • Welspun will help develop a recommended practice (RP) for design, re-qualification, construction and operation of pipelines for hydrogen gas transportation in offshore pipelines.

  4. Prime Minister of Denmark H.E. Ms. Mette Frederiksen paid a State Visit to India from 9-11 October 2021.
      • Four MoU were signed during the meet and progress on Green Strategic Partnership was discussed.
      • PM Modi will visit Copenhagen for the second India-Nordic summit in 2022.
MoU: -
• 1st - MoU between CSIR- National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad, and Aarhus University, Denmark and Geological Survey of Denmark & Greenland for mapping of ground water resources and aquifers.
• 2nd - MoU between IISc, Bengaluru and Danfoss Industries Private Limited to establish a Centre of Excellence towards natural refrigerants for tropical climates with potential applications.
• 3rd – MoU between CSIR and Danish Patent & Trademark Office for sharing of Traditional Knowledge Digital Library Access.
• 4th - Letter of Intent between Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and the Government of Denmark for cooperation.
India-Denmark Commercial Agreements:
• Apart from these, four commercial agreements were also signed between companies of India and Denmark.
• 1st – Reliance Industries and Danish company Stiesdal Fuel Technologies for setting up a “green hydrogen” electrolyser plant in India.
• 2nd – Infosys and Aarhus University for setting up a Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Solutions in Denmark.
• 3rd – Observer Research Foundation and State of Green, Danish environmental consultant, for joint research in climate solutions, including transition to green energy.
• 4th – Tata Projects and Grundfos (Denmark) for collaboration on joint projects in environment, water, and sustainability.
Review of Green Strategic Partnership:
• 5-year Action Plan (2021-2026) was adopted for strengthening the partnership.
• India and Denmark launched the Green Strategic Partnership in 2020.
• The action plan lists several specific goals to consolidate green and low-carbon growth, with a high focus on renewable energy, water, environment, and smart cities
  1. Ministry of Defence has approved the setting up 100 new affiliated Sainik Schools across the country by 2022-23.
      • These schools can be either newly set up or existing schools affiliated with Sainik School Society of Ministry of Defence.
      • Right now, there are 33 Sainik Schools across the country.
  2. Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has organized the 2-day long National Conference for Zoo Directors and Veterinarians, which was hosted by Sardar Patel Zoological Park, Kevadia, Gujarat.
      • The Union Environment Minister has released three important publications of the Central Zoo Authority, which are: –
        • Vision Plan (2021-2031) – to upgrade Indian Zoos to global standards and strengthen Central Zoo Authority.
        • WASH Manual for Zoos – CZA, in collaboration with UNICEF, developed the Guidelines for creating and maintaining WASH facilities within their premises for staff and visitors.
        • Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – A Compilation (Vol 1)- CZA – The theme for the celebration has been to showcase 75 species across 75 zoos though massive outreach programs in the 75 weeks.
      • An outreach movie titled ‘Live in harmony with nature, stop illegal trade in wildlife’, produced by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, was also released on the occasion.
      • Prani Mitra Awards (of CZA) were given: –
        • Outstanding Animal Keeper – Shrimati Lakhidevi, Bhagwan Birsa zoological Park, Ranchi Jharkhand.
        • Outstanding Educationist/ Biologist – Shri Harpal Singh, Educationist Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park Chatbir Punjab.
        • Outstanding Veterinarian – DrIlliyaraja Agra Bear Rescue Facility, Uttar Pradesh
        • Outstanding Director – Dr Vibhu Prakash Mathur, Director Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre, Pinjore Haryana.
  3. India will submit its covid-19 vaccination plan and targets to the World Health Organization (WHO), as the country will complete 100% adult vaccination by December 2021.
      • WHO has mandated countries to vaccinate at least 40% of their population by the end of 2021 and 70% by mid-2022.
  4. Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, attended the Ministerial meeting of the Conference of Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
      • Jaishankar met Russian FM Sergey Lavrov on the side lines of the CICA meeting.
      • He reiterated the UNSC resolution 2593 that prohibits the use of Afghan territory for sheltering, training, planning or financing terrorist acts.
      • Jaishankar is on a three nation visit – Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan – in the Central Asian Region.
      • In Kyrgyzstan, he signed an LoC of $200 million for development projects.

  1. Save the Children has released the “Global Girlhood Report 2021: Girls’ Rights in Crisis” report.
      • As per the report, child marriage is killing more than 60 girls a day globally.
      • Childhood pregnancy causes 22,000 lives in a year.
      • West and Central Africa accounted for nearly half (9,600) of all estimated child marriage-related deaths worldwide; representing a high rate of child marriage and teenage maternal mortality.
      • In the South Asian region, six girls a day die due to child marriage, leading to at least 2,000 deaths.
      • Region-wise data on child marriage related deaths (annual): –
        • West and Central Africa – 9600
        • South Asian region – 2000
        • East Asia and Pacific – 650 deaths
        • Latin America and the Caribbean – 560 deaths
      • A further 10 million girls are now expected to marry by 2030, leaving more girls at a risk of dying.
  2. World Bank has released the “International Debt Statistics 2022” report.
      • As per the report, poor countries’ debt increased by 12% to record $860 billions in 2020, due to Covid-19.
      • The external debt stock of low- and middle-income countries in 2020 rose, on average, 5.6% to $8.7 trillion.
      • For most countries, this rise in external debt was equal to the growth of gross national income (GNI) and exports.
      • Increase in debt ratios of low- and middle-income countries:
        • External debt to-GNI ratio – 29% in 2020 (up from 27% in 2019)
        • Debt-to-export ratio – 123% (up from 106% in 2019)
      • Debt given by multilateral agencies like IMF and World Bank increased to $117 billion in 2020, the highest level in a decade.

  1. Ezetap, a digital payments leader, has partnered with Axis Bank to introduce “My Vyappar” – a suite of digital payment services for merchants – to retail businesses in India.
      • As part of the partnership, over 50,000 smart POS devices have already been deployed with My Vyappar across 1600+ cities.
      • The digital platform provides the options of EMI, Buy now Pay later, etc.
  2. Bharti AXA Life Insurance has launched the Bharti AXA Life Unnati – a new saving plan for its customers.
      • This plan covers a comprehensive life insurance plan for the saving account holders.
  3. IIFL Finance has become the first NBFC in India to launch instant business loan service on WhatsApp.
      • Users will be able to avail loan up to ₹10 lakh with minimum documentation and get approval in five minutes.
      • For enabling this service, IIFL has partnered with Setu, a technology service provider.
  4. Air India is bought by Tata Sons for Rs 18,000 crores. The deal includes the sale of Air India Express and ground handling arm AISATS.
      • The cost is inclusive of a cash payment of ₹2,700 crore and taking over ₹15,300 crore debt.
      • This is the third airline of the Tata group as Tata Sons already own 84% stake in AirAsia India and 51% stake in Vistara.
      • Air India was founded in 1932 by Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy (JRD) Tata. It was initially called Tata Airlines until 1946.
      • Now, the Centre is planning to sell the subsidiaries of Air India, including Alliance Air as well as non-core assets like land and buildings worth ₹14,700 crore.
      • The Air India had a total debt of ₹61,562 crore as on August 31. Of this, Tata Sons holding company Talace Pvt Ltd will take over ₹15300 crore and the remaining ₹46,262 crore will be transferred to the special purpose vehicle- Air India Assets Holding Limited (AIAHL).
      • The AIAHL was formed in 2019 for holding debt and non-core assets of the Air India group.
      • The Group of Ministers for Air India divestment is headed by Amit Shah.

GDP Forecasts

  1. International Monetary Fund (IMF) has forecasted a 9.5% GDP forecast for India for 2021-22, its latest World Economic Outlook, October 2021 report.
      • For 2022-23, India’s GDP forecast is 8.5%.
      • Contraction in 2020-23 was 7.3%.
