  1. Haiderpur wetland (in Uttar Pradesh) has become the 47th UNESCO Ramsar site of India.
      • Ramsar is a wetland site designated under the Ramsar Convention, an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO, which came into force in 1975.
      • The convention was held in Ramsar, Iran.
      • Uttar Pradesh is now home to 9 Ramsar wetlands. With this, the state has the maximum number of wetlands in India.
  2. Parliament has passed the High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Amendment Bill, 2021.
      • The bill increases the pension for High court and Supreme Court judges by giving them additional pension after attaining specified age.
      • The additional quantum of pension for retired judges of the high courts and the Supreme Court is being sanctioned on the completion of the age of 80 years, 85 years, 90 years, 95 years and 100 years, as the case may be.
      • And, the additional quantum increases with age from 20% to 100% of the pension or family pension.
  3. National Summit on Agro and Food Processing was held at Anand, Gujarat.
      • This summit is being organised as part of a pre-event Vibrant Gujarat Summit to be held in Anand, Gujarat from December 14-16.
      • The focus of the summit would be Zero Budget Natural Farming.
  4. LokpalOnline digital platform was launched for the management of the complaints.
      • The platform enables people to file corruption complaints with the Lokpal.
      • The Lokpal office of India is chaired by Chief Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose.
      • The Lokpal was established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013 to inquire and investigate into allegations of corruption against public functionaries.
  5. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has virtually inaugurated week-long nationwide events of Department of Defence Production as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
      • He inaugurated a virtual exhibition, Path to Pride, public exhibitions, curated museums and launched a booklet showcasing 75 resolutions of Department of Defence Production.

  1. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has launched an e-learning initiative named Unnati to help educate youths and impart skill training to school dropouts from the weaker sections of society.
      • The e-learning platform, ‘Unnati’, was launched at the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Auditorium under the Delhi Police’s flagship scheme ‘YUVA’.
      • ‘YUVA’ is aimed at helping the youth, especially those from the weaker sections of society, and school dropouts get an education and acquire skills to realise their dreams of a secure future.
  2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has laid the foundation stone of Umiya Mata Temple and its premises at Umiya Campus in Sola in Ahmedabad.

      • The Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana was launched to incentivise employment generation by providing employee’s and employer’s contribution of 12% to EPFO, for the companies with more than 1000 employees.
      • For the companies with 1000 or less employees, the govt will pay 12% contribution of the employees only.
      • The contribution will be paid for a period from October 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022.
  4. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal launched the ‘Dilli ki Yogshala’ programme to provide free of cost yoga classes to people in the national capital from January 2022.
      • People can also visit the website dillikiyogshala.com to register for the programme.
      • For the trainers, the Delhi government has roped in the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) and its own training and technical education (TTE) team.

  1. An indigenous Supersonic Missile-Assisted Torpedo System (SMART) was successfully tested from Wheeler Island in Odisha.
      • The SMART has a far greater range than conventional torpedoes to target enemy submarines.

  3. For the first time, the WHO has released the ‘State of Inequalities: HIV, TB, and Malaria’ report to assess the level of inter-continental, inter-regional, inter-country, and intra-country inequalities in ensuring the access to treatment by the disadvantaged people.
      • Using the latest available global data for 32 health indicators (addressing the burden of disease; knowledge, attitudes and practices; detection; prevention; testing and treatment; and social protection) and up to 186 countries, the report quantifies within-country inequalities by sex, economic status, education, place of residence and age.
      • The inequalities is a barrier in achieving the targets of removing HIV, TB and Malaria and overall SDGs.
      • Poor and less educated people are faring worse than the rich and educated people.
      • At the same time, interventions have improved the situation. But, the worst part of it is that these inequalities have not narrowed down in the last decades.
      • Suggestions by the report:
        • Include inequality indicators in the national level disease elimination strategies
        • Ensure availability of more and better inequality data
        • Conduct regular inequality assessment
        • Use evidence to contextualise inequalities (to ascertain the circumstance leading to inequalities)
      • Monitoring inequalities and serving the disadvantaged sector is one of the key goals of the HIV strategy.
  4. India’s Performance:

      • Tuberculosis: In 2019, 7.1 million people were diagnosed, which dropped to 5.8 million people in 2020.
        • India was among the countries that reported the “largest relative reductions in annual notification” at 25% between 2019 and 2020.
  5. World Bank, in partnership with UNESCO and UNICEF, has launched ‘The State of the Global Education Crisis: A Path to Recovery’
      • The present generation of students is at a risk of losing $17 trillion in lifetime earning in present value, or about 14% of the value of present global GDP. This is far more than the $10 trillion estimated in 2020.
      • In low- and middle-income countries, the share of children living in Learning Poverty – already 53% before the pandemic – could potentially reach 70% given the long school closures and the ineffectiveness of remote learning.
        • Learning Poverty refers to the share of children who cannot read and understand a simple text by age 10.
      • Even before COVID-19 pandemic, the world was already experiencing a learning crisis. 258 million primary- and secondary-school age children and youth were out of school.
      • Mission: Recovering Education 2021 has been launched by the UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank to provide guidance and support to countries navigating the crisis.
      • At the peak of school closures, over 6 billion children and youth were affected – 1 billion of them in low-and middle-income countries. Globally, full and partial school closures lasted an average of 224 days.
