  1. UNDP India has released the “Aspirational District Programme Appraisal” report to applaud the success achieved by the Aspirational District Programme of NITI Aayog in the development of local areas.
      • The report analysed the performance of the program across 49 indicators, divided into 5 categories of Agriculture, Health and Nutrition, Education, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development and Basic Infrastructure.
      • The Aspirational Districts have shown more development than the non-aspiration districts. For example, Malaria Mukt Bastar Abhiyan in Bijapur and Dantewada districts (Chhattisgarh) is an example of best practices under the program.
      • The program was launched in 2018 by NITI Aayog for the development of 112 districts in the country. There are 718 districts in India in total.
  2. Three Indian S&T-led small-to-medium enterprises have been selected to undertake joint R&D and technology transfer projects under the India-Russia Joint Technology Assessment and Accelerated Commercialisation Programme.
      • The three firms are Prantae Solutions, Jayon Implants, and Ananya Technologies.
      • The India-Russia Joint Technology Assessment and Accelerated Commercialisation Programme is a joint initiative of the Dept of Science and Technology of India and the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (FASIE) of Russia.
      • The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is implementing this program on behalf of the DST.
      • The program was launched in 2020 to promote innovation. The program is funded by DST and FASIE.
      • The program aims to create an ecosystem wherein innovative Indian and Russian S&T led SMEs, Start-ups and Enterprises come together to drive B2B/B2G/B2C business ventures for mutually-inclusive socio-economic impact development.
      • The program has two components. After selecting the entities through a rigorous selection process, both countries either work on each of the two components: –
          • Joint Development through R&D Collaboration
          • Technology Transfer/Adaptation

  1. 31st edition of India-Thailand coordinated patrol (CORPAT) exercise took place in the Andaman Sea.
      • Indian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel INS Saryu and Thai ship Krabi along with Dornier maritime patrol aircraft from both navies are participating.

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) and Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association (SOFF) have signed an MoU to promote and strengthen the bilateral defence industrial relations.
      • Both organizations will set up a dedicated joint working group for promotion of bilateral defence industrial relations.
      • India and Sweden will set up manufacturing bases in India to produce military equipment and platforms.
      • India has also invited Swedish firms to invest in the defence industrial corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
      • 74% foreign direct investment (FDI) through automatic route and up to 100% through government route is allowed in the defence manufacturing sector.
      • There are around 200–250 Swedish companies already co-developing and co-producing various products with Indian firms.

International News

  1. UN Development Program has declared to eliminate AIDS by 2030.
      • This includes reducing annual new HIV infections to under 3,70,000 and annual AIDS-related deaths to under 2,50,000 by 2025.

  1. State Bank of India has launched a collateral-free loan scheme called the ‘KAVACH Personal Loan’ for the families affected by COVID-19.
      • The personal loan scheme has the lowest rate of interest and is especially aimed at families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
      • The reimbursement of the expenses already incurred for COVID-19 related medical expenses will also be provided under the scheme.
      • The scheme is for salaried and non-salaried customers along with the pensioners and their family members who tested CVID-19 positive on or after April 1, 2021

  1. Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has appointed Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri (former Supreme Court judge) as the chair of the Grievance Redressal Board of the recently formed Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council (DPCGC).
      • The DPCGC has 14 publishers of online curated content as members, which include Amazon Prime Video, Hoichoi, Hungama, Lionsgate Play and Netflix, among others.
  2. Henri Marie Dondra has been appointed as the Prime Minister of Central African Republic.
