  2. The second anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was celebrated.
      • The event witnessed the launch of Booklet on PMMSY & its achievements, Matsya Sampada: 3rd edition of DoF Newsletter, Tilapia Action Plan as a part of Export Diversification, Scampi Action Plan, National Seed Plan: 2022-2025 etc.
      • The main motto of PMMSY is ‘Reform, Perform and Transform’ in the fisheries sector.
      • Progress made by PMMSY –
        • Fisheries growth rate14.3% between FY20 to FY22
        • Fish Production – 141.64 lakh tons during 2019-20 to 161.87 lakh tons (provisional) during 2021-22
        • Exports – 13.64 lakh tonnes worth Rs 57,587 crores (USD 7.76 bn)

          • At present, India is exporting to 123 countries.

      • PM Narendra Modi announced that foot and mouth disease vaccination will be provided to all dairy animals by 2025.
      • India is developing technologies for biometric authentication of the dairy animals namely Pashu-Aadhaar to enhance the production in the dairy sector.
      • India is also developing an indigenous vaccine for the lumpy disease.

      • Out-of-pocket spending as a percentage of total health spending – 48.2%
        • Out-of-pocket expenses are expenses incurred directly by households at the time of receiving healthcare. This reflects the level of financial protection available to families for medical costs.
      • Total health expenditure in 2018-19 – 3.2% of GDP
      • Total Health Expenditure Per Capita – Rs 4,470 in 2018-19, up from Rs 4,297 in 2017-18, and Rs 3,638 in 2013-14
      • The social safety net for healthcare expenditure (i.e., insurance and welfare schemes) increased from 6% in 2013-14 to 9.6% in 2018-19.

      What is Health Expenditure?

      • Health expenditure includes current and capital expenditures incurred by the government and private sectors, as well as external funds.
      • As a percentage of the GDP, it indicates the spending on health care relative to a country’s economic development.
  7. IIT-Madras has become the first Indian institute to join the IBM Quantum Network, having over 180-member network.
      • As a member of the network, IIT-Madras will get cloud-based access to IBM’s advanced quantum computing systems and quantum expertise to explore practical applications and advance quantum computing skills development and research in India.
      • IIT-Madras’ Centre for Quantum Information, Communication and Computing will undertake the exploration work for quantum computing.
      • Last year, IIT-Madras joined IBM’s Quantum Education Program to provide its students and faculty access to IBM quantum learning resources, quantum tools, and quantum systems for education and research purpose.
  8. US Department of Commerce will lead an education trade mission to three Indian cities – Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi – to explore partnerships with the Indian education sector.
      • The theme of this mission is to identify and promote opportunities for collaboration between Indian and American institutes of higher education.

  1. Jammu & Kashmir Police has launched an online Mobile application “JK Ecop” to facilitate the common citizens to use a host of services.
  2. Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has launched Mukhyamantri Govansh Chikitsa Yojana to deploy mobile veterinary units for providing better healthcare services to cattle.
      • This scheme is on the similar lines of ‘Mukhyamantri Slum Swasthya Yojana’ and ‘Mukhyamantri Haat-Bazaar Clinic Yojana’ – which aim to provide basic health care services to the people living in remote rural areas and in urban slum settlements.
      • The state is also implementing the ‘Gaudhan Nyay Yojana’ to buy cow dung at Rs two a kilo and cow urine at Rs four a litre.
  3. Seiyhama village in Nagaland celebrated the first-ever Naga Mircha (King chilly) festival.
      • The festival is sponsored by the Department of Horticulture.
      • GI-tag products from Nagaland – Naga Mircha (King Chilli), Naga Tree Tomato, Chakhesang shawls and Nagaland “sweet cucumber”

  2. International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with Walk Free Foundation, has released a report on modern slavery.
      • According to the report, about 50 million people are trapped in forced labour or forced marriage and other crises.
      • That means nearly one out of every 150 people in the world are caught up in modern forms of slavery.
      • Modern slavery is defined as involving people who “cannot refuse or cannot leave because of threats, violence, deception, abuse of power or other forms of coercion”.
      • Modern slavery is present in basically every country, with more than half of cases of forced labour and a quarter of forced marriages in upper-middle-income or high-income countries.

  1. Reliance Industries has announced to build India’s first and one of the world’s largest Carbon Fibre plants at Hazira, Gujarat by 2025.
      • The plants will have a capacity of 20,000 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) based on Acrylonitrile feedstock.
      • Reliance will invest ₹75,000 crore over the next five years to expand carbon fibre supply chain.
      • Carbon Fibre, aka Graphite Fibre, is a lightweight but strong metal, having numerous applications.
      • Reliance will create value chains for Polyester value chain, Vinyl chain, and New Materials.

      Additional Facts –

      • The announcement was made during the 45th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries.
      • Section 96 of the Companies Act, 2013 – Every company should conduct an annual general meeting in a financial year. There should not be a gap of more than 15 months between two AGMs.

  3. HDFC Bank has become India’s first bank to issue an Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG) in partnership with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL).
      • A bank guarantee is when a lending institution promises to cover a loss if a borrower defaults on a loan.
      • The guarantee provides additional risk to the bank, so loans with such a guarantee will come with greater costs or interest rates.
      • HDFC Bank has also signed an MOU with the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) to provide finance the ‘HDFC Bank Chair of Banking and Finance’ at the IEG’s campus.
      • The bank will support the chair for over five years with a funding support of ₹6.75 crore, with effect from 1 September.
  4. Ministry of Coal has announced the coal production target of 23 billion tonne by FY 2024-25 to ensure the energy security of the country.
  5. Vedanta Ltd will establish its semiconductor project, in a joint venture with Taiwan’s Foxconn, in Gujarat.
      • India’s semiconductor market is estimated to reach $63 billion by 2026 from $15 billion in 2020.
  6. Bharti Airtel’s subsidiary Nxtra Data Ltd has partnered with Bloom Energy to deploy a low environmental impact fuel cell installation at its data centre in Karnataka for cutting carbon emissions through a cleaner, hydrogen-ready fuel supply.
      • This will make Nxtra the first data centre company in India to deploy fuel cell technology to reduce carbon emissions at a data centre.
