      • The Ministry has also developed two portals to track the progress in a systematic manner.

      • Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) was launched in 2022 at Kevadia, Gujarat to bring about behaviour changes in individuals through simple easy to do actions.
      • World Environment Day 2023 is hosted by Côte d’Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands and will focus on solutions to plastic pollution.

  1. NASA’s Scientific Balloon Program has launched a second football-stadium-sized, heavy-lift super pressure balloon (SPB) from Wānaka Airport, New Zealand, on a technology mission aimed for 100 days or more of flight in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
      • The second balloon contains the Extreme Universe Space Observatory 2 (EUSO-2), a science mission from the University of Chicago.
      • It aims to detect ultra-high energy cosmic-ray particles from beyond Milkyway galaxy as they penetrate Earth’s atmosphere.

  2. WHO launched the “Accelerating anaemia reduction: a comprehensive framework for action”.
      • WHO aims to achieve the global target to halve anaemia prevalence in women of reproductive age by 2025.
      • Currently, an estimated 571 million women and 269 million young children face serious health problems due to anaemia.
      • Globally, it is estimated that in 2019, 40% of all children aged 6–59 months, 37% of pregnant women and 30% of women 15–49 years of age were affected by anaemia.
      • For all population groups combined, it is estimated that nearly one quarter of the world’s population, or 1.8 billion people, suffered from some form of anaemia in 2019.

• The amount of haemoglobin in whole blood is expressed in grams per deciliter (g/dl). The normal Hb level for males is 14 to 18 g/dl; that for females is 12 to 16 g/dl.

  2. Norwegian Refugee Council and Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre have released the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2023 (GRID 2023): Internal displacement and food security.
      • The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) around the world reached 71.1 million as of the end of 2022, an increase of 20% from the previous year.
      • The number of disaster displacements increased by nearly 40% compared to the previous year, reaching 32.6 million.
      • Conflict and violence triggered 28.3 million internal displacements worldwide.

  2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated the banks to commence a ‘100 Days 100 Pays’ campaign, where they will trace and settle the top 100 unclaimed deposits of every bank in every district within 100 days.
      • The banks will commence the campaign for return of unclaimed deposits from June 1.
      • The banks will reduce the quantum of unclaimed deposits in the banking system and return such deposits to their rightful owners/claimants.

      • The scheme aims to invest with a focus on riding business cycles through allocation between sectors and stocks at different stages of business cycles.
