  1. Ministry of Culture has launched the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav mobile app to enable all single-point access to all information related to the 75th anniversary celebrations of India’s independence.
  2. IIT-Guwahati will collaborate with Oil India Limited on the development and introduction of new technologies energy, and related sectors.
      • The partnership will also focus on cooperation in transfer of existing technologies, Knowledge up-gradation and innovation partnership, training and skill development, and other areas of mutual agreement.
  3. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will get the ‘sattvik’ certificate for some trains where vegetarian food will be provided, especially those running on routes connecting religious sites.
      • Sattvik Council of India will provide the certificate.
      • The IRCTC runs the Vande Bharat Express which travels from Delhi to Katra. It will be certified as ‘sattvik’.
  4. The Indian Antarctic program was started in 1981 to explore Antarctic region.
      • Under this program, 40 scientific expeditions have been completed.
      • India has built three permanent research base stations in Antarctica, named Dakshin Gangotri (1983), Maitri (1988) and Bharati (2012), as part of this program.
      • As of today, Maitri and Bharati are fully operational. The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa—an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences—manages the entire Indian Antarctic program.
      • Why in News? – 41st expedition has been launched recently, for which Indian Scientists have travelled to Antarctica.
        • As part of the 41st expedition, scientists will explore Amery ice shelf at Bharati station to assess the link between India and Antarctica in the past.
        • They will also be drilling of 500 meters of ice core near Maitri station to understand the climate phenomenon.
        • For drilling, India has partnered with British Antarctic Survey and the Norwegian Polar Institute.

State News

  1. Gujarat government has launched the ‘Niramay Gujarat Yojana’ to screen and protect people above 30 years from non-communicable diseases.
      • The citizens will be screened at the primary health centres and community health centres every Friday — also known as Mamta Divas.
      • They will be given a Niramay Card with their health details. The screening and facilities of treatment would save a family’s expenses by Rs 12,000 to 15,000.
      • Another initiative: –
        • The state cabinet has also decided to launch the ‘Atmanirbhar Gram Yatra’ in rural areas as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
        • Under the yatra, developmental works worth Rs 500 crore will be started or dedicated in different districts of the state.
      • The state government has decided to rename the Labour and Employment Department to the Labour, Skill and Employment Department.

  1. 32nd edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) was held between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy.
      • INS Karmuk, along with Maritime Patrol Aircraft, is participating in the CORPAT from Indian side.

International News

  1. Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC), hosted by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, will be held in UAE from November 15 to 17.
      • It will be attended by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs.
      • He will participate in the Ministerial Round Table titled “Charting the Climate Action Path from COP 26 to COP 27”.
      • The India Pavilion has been set up jointly by Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Banking & Economy

  1. Tata Projects Limited has received an order for a 400kV double circuit transmission line project valued at around $120 million (around ₹900 crores) from the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB).
      • This 120-km project from Barapukuria to Bogura has been secured on a turnkey basis.
      • It will be executed in 30 months and the funding shall be done by EXIM Bank India under Indian Line of Credit.
      • It will also facilitate 1,600 MW power transmission from a power plant based in Jharkhand to Bangladesh.
      • South Asia power pool comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) to form the primary component of South Asia-Southeast Asia interconnection corridor.
  2. RBI has projected the CPI inflation at 3% for 2021-22: 5.1% in second quarter, 4.5% in third; 5.8% in last quarter of the fiscal.
      • The retail inflation during April-June (Q1) period of 2022-23 is projected at 5.2%.
  3. RBI has imposed several restrictions on Laxmi Cooperative Bank Ltd, Solapur, due to deterioration in its financial position.
      • The restrictions include Rs 1,000 cap on withdrawals for customers.
      • The restrictions imposed under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, shall remain in force for six months from the close of business on November 12, 2021.
      • Recently, RBI had imposed similar restrictions on Babaji Date Mahila Sahakari Bank, Yavatmal, Maharashtra.
  4. HDFC Bank has announced its integration with the e-National Agriculture Market to enable digital collections and settlement of funds to various e-NAM beneficiaries.
  5. RBI has mandated banks to specifically mention the due date of loans for the borrowers.
      • In case of the new borrowers, the banks are obliged to mention the dates by December 31, 2021.
      • For existing loans, banks have to comply with guidelines as and when these loans become due for review or renewal.

Appointments

  1. President Ram Nath Kovind has signed an ordinance to extend the tenure of the Directors of Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation up to 5 years.
      • Till now, both posts have a fixed tenure of 2 years.
      • To validate the extension, the central govt has amended the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 and the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 which govern the ED and the CBI respectively.
      • Now, the maximum tenure of a CBI and ED chief is 5 years.
        • Functioning – After completion of 2 years in service of Director-ED and Director-CBI, the Centre, on the recommendation of the selection committee, may extend the tenure of these posts by one year (up to a maximum of 3 years, to make it a total of 5 years) at a time.
      • Present ED chief is Sanjay Kumar Mishra and CBI chief is Subodh Kumar Jaiswal.
      • Separately, the Centre has also brought in an ordinance to limit the extension of tenure to a “maximum of 2 years” for defence secretary, home secretary, director of intelligence bureau, secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
      • This new amendment is in the Fundamental Rules, 1922.
