  1. Ministry of Home Affairs has enhanced the jurisdiction of Border Security Force in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam.
      • Now, BSF can arrest, search, and seize up to the extent of 50 km inside the international border.
      • BSF can exercise this power under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 and the Passport Act, 1967.
      • States Under Complete BSF Jurisdiction – Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
      • 50 km belt States – Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, West Bengal and Assam.
  2. Central government has approved the proposal of the state-owned Solar Energy Corp of India (SECI) to set up a 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS).
      • SECI has already called expressions of interest (EoI) for setting up the BESS.
  3. Ministry of Communication has launched PLI Scheme for Telecom and Networking Products.
      • Total Outlay – Rs.12,195 Crore
      • The scheme is effective from 1st April 2021
      • Duration – Up to 2025-26
      • Eligible companies – Total 31 (16 MSMEs and 15 non-MSMEs)
      • Out of 15 non-MSMEs, 8 are domestic companies and 7 are global.
      • These 31 applicants are expected to invest ₹ 3345 crore in the next 4 years and generate incremental employment of more than 40,000 people.
      • Incremental production of around ₹ 1.82 Lakh Crore over the scheme period is expected.
  4. AIIMS has launched “Healthy Smile” app, a dental health education app, for children to help them develop good oral health practices.
      • The bilingual app has been developed by Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry at AIIMS (All India Institute Of Medical Science).
      • Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the target is to develop 22 AIIMS hospitals across the nation.
  5. Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has announced to establish nearly 500 multi modal cargo terminals under the PM Gati-Shakti Yojana in a time period of four to five years.
      • The digital platform of Gati Shakti will take the technology to next level, which includes using spatial planning tools with ISRO imagery, developed by Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BiSAG-N).
  6. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched “UFill” platform.
      • Customers can pay for the fuel purchase online, by using any payment gateway, before visiting the BPCL outlet. This is like pre-booking the fuel purchase with the pre-determined quantity.
      • This will reduce the physical contact and delay at the Point of Sale outlets.
      • The UFill has been launched in 65 cities across India and will soon be launched across the country.

  1. Karnataka State Higher Education Council has signed an MoU with National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) for providing industry-aligned skill development training to students of higher education.
      • The skill development training programs will be available on Future Skills Prime platform of NASSCOM.
  2. Tamil Nadu govt has authorised the Indian Overseas Bank to collect all the receipts of the state government under IFHRMS (Integrated Finance Human Resource Management System) portal through both offline and online.
      • IFHRMS portal is a comprehensive management system for integrating Human Resources and Financial services to improve operational efficiency.

      • The partnership is aimed at launching the India Digital Trade Facilitation Forum (IDTFF) for MSMEs.
      • The IDTFF will facilitate education, training and capacity building of MSMEs and help them in resolving export-related issues vis-à-vis increasing their international market outreach.
      • Virtual webinars and masterclasses (via IDTFF) will be conducted to educate MSMEs on marketing, scaling, digitalization and exports by subject experts.

International News

  1. Current Chair country of the Non-Aligned Movement is Azerbaijan.
      • In the 60th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement Commemorative Meeting in Serbia, MoS for External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi represented India.
      • The meeting was co-hosted by Alexsander Vucic (President of Serbia) and Ilham Aliyev (President of Azerbaijan and NAM Chair).
  2. WHO has released the ‘Global Roadmap to Defeat Meningitis by 2030’ during an event in Geneva, Switzerland.
      • Meningitis is an inflammation (swelling) of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. A bacterial or viral infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord usually causes the swelling.
      • Fatalities of Meningitis – Meningitis caused by bacterial infection causes around 250,000 deaths a year.
      • Meningitis epidemics – ‘Meningitis Belt,’ which spans 26 countries across sub-Saharan Africa is the most vulnerable area.
      • Focus of the Roadmap –
        • It aims to eliminate epidemics of bacterial meningitis — the deadliest form of the disease — and to reduce deaths by 70% and halve the number of cases.
        • The strategy could save more than 200,000 lives annually.
        • The roadmap will focus on developing vaccines and improve prevention strategies and outbreak response.
        • Ensuring speedy diagnosis and optimal treatment for patients
  3. Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has organized the webinar on ‘Role of Women in Armed Forces’.
      • The international webinar in video conference mode is hosted by the Indian Ministry of Defence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended it from India.
  4. China and Russia are conducting their joint naval exercise named as “Joint Sea 2021 Naval Exercise” in the Sea of Japan.
  5. India has been re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for a sixth term from 2022-2024.
      • India will be a member of the council for three years starting from January 1, 2022.
      • India was elected to the council for the term from 2019 to 2021 as well.
      • Apart from India, 17 countries were elected to the council.

  3. PhonePe, in association with NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd (NBBL), has launched ‘ClickPay’ facility for its customers.
      • ClickPay is a unique payment link that enables customers to make recurring online bill payments (electricity, water, gas, loan, etc), without entering the details of billers or service again and again.
      • This link sent by the biller will lead the customer directly to the payment page, fetching the bill amount instantly.
      • Parent organization of PhonePe is Flipkart.
