  1. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has launched the first-of-its-kind ferry named Voyage Express, which generates solar power also.
      • The ferry reduces the travelling time between Saurashtra and South Gujarat by 70%.
      • It is 134 meters long and can carry 50 trucks, 25 light commercial trucks, 70 cars, 50 two wheelers along with 600 passengers.
      • The Deendayal Port Authority, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), has also developed a new State-of-the-Art Ro-Ro terminal at Hazira in Surat.

      • Now, a total of 384 drugs are placed on the list. The medicines have been categorised into 27 therapeutic categories.
      • 34 new drugs have been added, whereas 26 from the previous list have been dropped.
      • The National List of Essential Medicines was first compiled in 1996 and it was revised thrice earlier in 2003, 2011, and 2015.

      About the NLEM –

      • It is released by National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NPPA) for fixing a ceiling on the prices of essential medicines so that they are affordable and widely available to everyone.
      • NLEM also ensures the maintenance of quality standards and affordability of the essential drugs.
      • NPPA also promulgates the Drug (Prices Control) Order, 1995 under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 for regulating the prices of essential medicines.
      • With effect from April 1, 2020, all medical devices are treated as drugs and regulated under the Drug (Prices Control) Order, 1995 by NPPA for price and quality standards.
      • Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is the Central Drug Authority for discharging functions assigned to the Central Government under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
  6. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) has committed to adopting 100,000 TB Patients under the Tuberculosis Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
      • The scheme aims to bring together all community stakeholders to accelerate the country’s progress towards TB elimination.
      • FICCI has committed to adopt 1 lakh TB patients through the collective capability of FICCI members and support the government by becoming Ni-kshay Mitras.

  1. The 6th edition of Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2022 (JIMEX 22) was hosted by Indian Navy in the Bay of Bengal.
      • JIMEX 22 involves two phases: exercises at sea and a harbour phase at Visakhapatnam.
      • JIMEX started in 2012.
      • It also coincides with the 70th anniversary of establishing of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.
  2. INS Satpura and a P8 I Maritime Patrol Aircraft of the Indian Navy has reached Darwin port in Australia for participating in the multinational Exercise Kakadu – 2022, hosted by the Royal Australian Navy.
      • The two week-long Exercise, both in harbour and sea, involves ships and maritime aircraft from 14 navies.

      • As per the report, an estimated 3 million people in Sri Lanka are facing moderate to severe acute food insecurity and their situation is expected to worsen if adequate life-saving assistance and livelihood support is not provided.
