  1. In October 2022, the Prime Minister launched the Mission DefSpace during 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
      • The Mission had 75 Defence Space Challenges categorised into existing Department of Defence Production initiatives of iDEX, Make-I and Make-2.
      • Private Industries, including Start-ups, MSMEs and Individual Innovators, are eligible to apply. They are required to innovate on –
        • Launch System, Satellite System,
        • Communication & Payload System,
        • Ground System and,
        • Software System
      • In May, the Ministry of Defence has given 1st contract under Mission DefSpace to Thane-based InspeCity Space Laboratories.
        • This contract was signed by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of Ministry of Defence. This contract is the 250th contract of the iDEX.
      • iDEX has also signed the 100th contract under SPRINT (Navy) initiative with Siliconia Technologies Pvt Ltd.
        • SPRINT challenge was launched in July 2022 for developing technologies for the Indian Navy.
        • SPRINT stands for Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), NIIO and Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC).

• The iDEX framework was launched in 2018 with the objective to engage start-ups to contribute to the defence sector and develop defence and aerospace technologies in the country.
• iDEX is funded and managed by the ‘Defence Innovation Organization (DIO)’.
• DIO has been formed as a ‘not for profit’ company as per Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013.

  1. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved a new scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Sikho Kamao Yojana’ (‘Learn and Earn scheme’) for unemployed youths in the state.
      • Youth who have passed class 12th, ITI, Graduation and post-graduation, all of them will be eligible for the scheme and a stipend amount will also be given to them for learning skills.

  2. Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has launched the Himcare scheme for jail inmates, by providing Himcare cards to the prisoners at Model Central Jail Kanda in Shimla.
      • Purpose – to cover the cost of treatment during their illness
      • The state is already implementing Mukhya Mantri Sukh Aashray Scheme to provide comprehensive support to orphaned children up to 27 years of age.
      • This includes covering their education and hostel expenses, providing them with a pocket allowance of ₹4,000 and offering financial assistance to construct homes.
      • The state has also launched the integrated campaign ISHTH to provide free counselling, treatment and medicines for HIV, TB, STI and Hepatitis to the jail inmates during the campaign.

  4. Kerala is set to become the first State to have a welfare fund for Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers.
      • The Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme workers will also be part of the welfare fund.
      • The Welfare fund, which will provide the workers with pension, medical assistance, educational assistance for their children and other benefits, has been formed as per the Kerala Employment Guarantee Workers’ Welfare Fund Act, 2021.

  1. Vast, a space habitation technologies company in US, has announced its plans to launch the world’s first commercial space station, called Haven-1, on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to low-Earth orbit in 2025.
