  1. 60th Public Enterprises Survey 2019-20 was released by the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance.
      • It is the single largest source of information on Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) and acts as a basis for informed policy making.
      • The Department of Public Enterprises started bringing out the Public Enterprises Survey from the financial year 1960-61.
      • PE Survey divides CPSEs into five sectors namely:
        • Agriculture,
        • Mining & Exploration,
        • Manufacturing, Processing & Generation,
        • Services,
        • Enterprises Under Construction
  2. Ministry of Science and Technology released India’s first Cattle Genomic Chip named IndiGau for conservation of the indigenous breeds with better characteristics.
      • It will also help towards doubling of farmers’ income by 2022.
      • IndiGau is India’s first Cattle Genomic Chip for the conservation of pure varieties of indigenous cattle breeds like Gir, Kankrej, Sahiwal, Ongole, etc.
      • This indigenous chip was developed by the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NAIB), Hyderabad.
  3. PM Narender Modi has announced to launch an e-commerce platform for Self Help Group which will focus on women SHGs.
  4. The Central University that will be created in Ladakh in named as Indus (Sindhu) Central University.
      • This is the first central university named after a river.
      • Budget allocated for developing the university is ₹750 crore.
      • Union Territory of Ladakh has identified approx. 110 acres of land at village Khaltsi, located in between Leh and Kargil.
  5. Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced that India has achieved the milestone of installing 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity, as of August 12, 2021.
      • This excluded large hydroelectricity capacities installed in the country.
      • If large hydro is included the installed RE capacity increases to 146 GW.
      • While 100 GW has been installed, 50 GW is under installation and 27 GW is under tendering.
      • The target set for installed solar energy capacity is 100 GW by March 2023 — 40 GW rooftop solar and 60 GW ground-mounted utility scale. Till now, installed solar capacity is only 43.94 GW as of July 31, 2021.
  6. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched ‘SonChiraiya’ – (A brand and logo)– for marketing of urban Self-Help Group (SHG) products.
      • In order to empower the SHGs producing handicrafts, textiles, toys, eatables etc., Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has partnered with Amazon and Flipkart to onboard them on online platform and provide them with an increased market outreach.
      • The SHGs are promoted under the DAY-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) of the MoHUA.
  7. Ministry of Coal has launched the Vriksharopan Abhiyan – 2021 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations.
      • Target of this year’s campaign – coal/lignite PSUs of the Ministry of Coal have set an ambitious target to cover 2385 hectares of area under bio-reclamation/plantation.
      • The govt is already running a “Go Greening” drive to increase green cover in and around mining areas.

State News

  1. Jammu and Kashmir has launched PROOF app (‘Photographic Record of On-site Facility’) to bring more transparency and accountability in the governance system.
      • The app will help in monitoring and timely completion of projects.
      • The details of all the projects with complete geo-tagged photographs shall now be available for public through the EMPOWERMENT portal.
      • No bills shall be entertained in the treasury unless photographs of projects are uploaded.
      • The budget is allocated to projects through BEAMS (Budget Estimation Allocation Monitoring System) application of J&K.
  2. Maharashtra has launched the e-crop survey initiative, which is jointly implemented by the State’s Departments of Revenue and Agriculture along with the Tata Trust.
      • The e-crop survey app will provide information to farmers seamlessly.
      • The state already has a digitized 7/12 document (land record) system.
      • The e-Crop Survey is aimed at increasing the income of farmers.
      • Farmers will be able to register their crops on their own and avail crop loans and crop insurance. The project will understand each crop pattern area by village taluka and district.

International News

  1. BRICS Working Group on Agriculture 2021 meeting was held virtually on the theme “BRICS Partnership for Strengthening Agro Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition Security”.
      • The meeting as chaired by India and 13th BRICS 2021 summit will be chaired by India next month.
      • BRICS Agriculture Research platform has been developed by India to promote cooperation in areas of agricultural research, extension, technology transfer, training and capacity building.
      • The main aim is to improve use and application of agricultural technologies for meeting the needs of producers and processors.
      • Action Plan of 2021-24 for agricultural cooperation will be adopted by BRICS nations at the Summit.

  1. General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) will move its operations to GIFT City from Dubai.
      • GIC Re is the sole insurer in the domestic reinsurance market.
  2. RBI has cancelled the licence of Karnala Nagari Sahakari Bank (Panvel, Maharashtra) under Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
      • Section 22 of Banking Regulation Act provides for entities to obtain banking license from RBI. RBI can cancel the same under Section 22(4).
      • Section 47 A empower RBI to penalise banks for non-compliance.
  3. RBI has introduced the Financial Inclusion Index.
      • In the Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies in the first Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement for 2021-2022 dated April 07, 2021, the RBI had constructed a composite Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index) to capture the extent of financial inclusion across the country.
A) Sectors - The FI-Index has been conceptualised as a comprehensive index incorporating details of banking, investments, insurance, postal as well as the pension sector.
B) Scores - The index captures information on various aspects of financial inclusion in a single value ranging between 0 and 100, where 0 represents complete financial exclusion and 100 indicates full financial inclusion.
→ The annual FI-Index for the period ending March 2021 is 53.9 as against 43.4 for the period ending March 2017.
Base Year – No base year as the index reflects cumulative efforts of all stakeholders over the years towards financial inclusion.
D) Publishment - The FI-Index will be published annually in July every year.
E) Parameters - The FI-Index comprises of three broad parameters viz., Access (35%), Usage (45%), and Quality (20%).
→ Each of these parameters will consist of various dimensions, which are computed based on a number of indicators.
→ A total of 97 indicators are used in this index.
F) Function – The index aims to achieve ease of access, availability and usage of services, and quality of services.
→ A unique feature of the Index is the Quality parameter which captures the quality aspect of financial inclusion as reflected by financial literacy, consumer protection, and inequalities and deficiencies in services.
