  1. MyGov India has launched the Planetarium Innovation Challenge for Indian start-ups and tech entrepreneurs.
      • Purpose – to develop an indigenous planetariums system software by using latest technologies including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Merged Reality (MR).
      • Prizes – The first winner, second winner and third winner under the contest will get the cash prizes of Rs.5 lakh, Rs.3 lakh and Rs.2 lakh respectively.

  3. Five more National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) centres have been inaugurated in the northeast states.
      • Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated one centre in Manipur and the two centres in Assam.
  4. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released the Crime in India Report 2020.
      • In 2020, fewer traditional crimes such as those committed against women and children, among others, were low. However, civil conflicts increased.
      • Delhi Police registered the highest i.e., 520 cases of communal riots while Uttar Pradesh police did not record a single case of communal violence in 2020.
      • Traditional crimes (like murder, theft, rape, etc.) dropped by about 2 lakhs.
      • Delhi is the most unsafe city for women.
      • Environment-related offences increased by 78.1%.
      • The rate of cyber-crime (incidents per lakh population) also increased from 3.3% in 2019 to 3.7% in 2020.
      • Cases under Offences against the State category dropped by 27% over 2019. Only, UP saw an increase in these crimes.

  1. Central govt has launched “Rail Kaushal Vikas Yojana” to provide industry-level training to youth through Railway training institutes.
      • The training will be provided to 50,000 candidates over a period of three years. Initially, the training will be provided to 1000 candidates.
      • To begin with, training will be provided in electrician, welder, machinist and fitter trades.
      • Training shall be provided free of cost and participants will be selected from applications received online, following a transparent mechanism on the basis of marks in matriculation.
      • Candidates who are 10th passed and between 18-35 years shall be eligible to apply.
      • The program curriculum has been developed by Banaras Locomotive Works.
      • National Rail & Transportation Institute will provide certificate in the allotted trade.

State News

  1. Uttar Pradesh has launched ‘Uttar Pradesh Matra Bhumi Yojana’ to make the common man a direct participant in the development work of the state and strengthen the participatory rural economy and infrastructure.
      • The government will bear 50% of the total cost of the project, while the remaining 50% will be contributed by the interested people.
      • In return the project can be named after the relatives of the collaborators as per their wish.
  2. Celltick has partnered with Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) and Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority to launch India’s First Cell Broadcast based Public Warning System in the state.
      • Celltick is the world’s largest cell broadcast-based products provider and a global leader of Public Warning systems (PWS).
      • The partnership will support to the state’s CAP-compliant Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS).

International News

  1. The Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA), previously the Bangkok Agreement, is a preferential tariff arrangement that aims at promoting intra-regional trade through the exchange of mutually agreed concessions by member countries.
      • Its current members are Bangladesh, China, India, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR and Sri Lanka. Mongolia has concluded bilateral negotiations on tariff concessions and is to become the seventh member.
      • The agreement provides certain flexibilities to the Least Developed Countries (LDC).
      • Rules of origin conditions are also more flexible for LDCs. The value addition requirement is 35%, compared to 45% for non-LDCs; regional cumulation is allowed with a value addition requirement of 50% compared to 60% for non-LDCs.

  1. Three UN agencies — Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Environment Programme (UNEP) — has released “A multi-billion-dollar opportunity: Repurposing agricultural support to transform food systems” report.
      • The report assesses the support given by countries to the farmers and how it is adversely affecting the SDGs (food prices, environment, global warming etc.)
      • Annually, $540 billion are used as a support to farmers which is expected to increase to $1.7 trillion by 2030.
      • 87% of this assistance, i.e., $470 billion is harmful for prices and environment.
      • Of this, only $110 billion was used to support infrastructure, research and development and benefitted the general food and agriculture sector.
      • Of the total support, $294 billion was paid in the form of price incentives and around $245 billion as fiscal subsidies to farmers.

  1. HSBC India has launched HSBC UniTransact, a digital proposition aimed at simplifying cross-border transactions.
  2. Swachhata Pakhwada 2021 was launched in Cochin Port Trust by administering the Swachhata pledge in all departments.
  3. Union Government has approved to guarantee Security Receipts (SR) issued by National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) when buying non-performing assets (NPAs) from banks.
      • This will clear the path for the launch of National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL).
      • Security Receipts (SR) will ensure recovery of the NPAs, acquired by NARCL.
      • SR worth Rs.30,600 crores have been approved by the govt.
  4. Additional Facts:

      • Canara Bank will be the biggest shareholder in NARCL, with a shareholding of 12%. The company is classified as the “Union government company”.
      • Headquarters – NARCL is registered in Mumbai.
      • NARCL’s Authorized Capital – ₹100 crore; Paid-up capital – ₹74.6 crore
      • NARCL CEO – Padmakumar Madhavan Nair
      • Total bad loans worth ₹2 lakh crore are likely to be transferred to NARCL in tranches. It intends to acquire these through 15% Cash and 85% in Security Receipts (SRs).
      • As announced in the Union Budget for FY22, NARCL will house bad loan accounts of ₹500 crore, or more.
  5. RBI has given approval to Ujjivan Small Finance Bank for forming a special committee of directors (comprising 3 members) to oversee the bank’s operations in the absence of an MD and CEO.
      • Carol Furtado will take charge as the interim CEO of the bank.
