  1. NITI Aayog, in collaboration with ISRO, has developed a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) Energy Map of India with the support of Energy Ministries of Government of India.
      • The GIS map provides a holistic picture of all energy resources of the country.
      • The data is classified in 27 themes or layers (as shown in the list given in the picture below).
      • The map identifies and locates all primary and secondary sources of energy and their transportation/transmission networks to provide a comprehensive view of energy production and distribution in a country.

  1. NABARD has announced that the dedicated fund of ₹1,000-crore for providing credit guarantees to 10,000 farmer produce organisations (FPOs) will be housed in “Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for FPOs” (CGFTFPO) under the trusteeship of NABSanrakshan Trustee Private Limited (NTPL).
      • The Trust has been registered at Mumbai.
      • The Central sector scheme ‘Formation and promotion of 10,000 FPOs’ was launched in 2021 with a total outlay of ₹6,865 crore.
      • The CGFTFPO is only the second such Trust formed in the agriculture and allied sector for providing credit guarantee.
      • Other trust is Rural Infrastructure and Development Fund of NABARD.
  2. India is planning to establish a second Quad Group with UAE, Israel and USA to promote trade, energy and maritime security cooperation.
      • The focus will be on expanding economic and political cooperation in West Asia.
      • A video-conference was held among India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and the UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
      • This meeting is considered as a harbinger of a second Quad, which is focused on West Asia.
      • S. Jaishankar has unveiled the “Bhoodan Grove” plaque at the Jerusalem Forest, Judean Mountains, Israel.
  3. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will be hosting the “Aadhaar Hackathon 2021” for young innovators, from October 28-31.
      • Aadhaar Hackathon 2021 has two themes – i) “Enrolment and Update” and ii) “Identity and Authentication”.
  4. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will organize the “Gen Next Democratic Network” event in November.
      • Young leaders or members (below the age of 35 years) of different political parties from 75 democracies will be invited in this event to share about the democratic practices of India and build good relations with them as they will become future leaders of their countries.
      • The event is part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
      • The speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, will inaugurate the event.
      • The inaugural batch will comprise of leaders from Bangladesh, Chile, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Japan and Zambia.
      • The “Gen Next Democratic Network” will cover South East Asia and Africa regions.
      • ICCR is an autonomous institution under Ministry of External Affairs. Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe is the President of ICCR.
  5. Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia has flagged off 6 aerial routes, that are operational, for expanding the aerial connectivity of North-East India.
      • The routes are Kolkata – Guwahati, Guwahati – Aizawl, Aizawl – Shillong, Shillong – Aizawl, Aizawl – Guwahati, and Guwahati – Kolkata.
      • In 2014, only 6 airports were operational in North East, now the number has increased to 15 airports.
      • Also, the direct flight on Tirupati-Delhi route has also started.
      • Under the KRISHI UDAN Yojana, the Aviation Ministry has identified 16 airports to enhance the export opportunities of the North-East region.

State News

  1. Rajasthan govt had launched “Prashasan Gaon Ke Sang” and “Prashasan Shahron Ke Sang” campaigns on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2 to December 17, 2021).
      • The campaigns aim to provide access to the govt services to the citizens.
      • Ashok Gehlot also laid the foundation stone of Gandhi Darshan Museum and inaugurated Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Governance and Social Sciences.
      • The institute aims to prepare youth to play their role in administration and social work.
  2. J&K administration has signed an MoU with Dubai government for development of real estate, industrial parks, and more in the UT.
      • This will also enhance the employment opportunities in the state.
  3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched various development projects worth Rs 1000 crores in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
      • Of this, 14 projects worth Rs 299 crores have been inaugurated and foundation stone has been laid of 12 projects worth Rs 643 crores.
      • Azad Hind Fauj Bridge has also been inaugurated.
      • An AYUSH hospital and 49 Wellness Centres cum Help Centres have been established in the A&N islands.
  4. According to an independent study by Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), 17% families in Delhi and Tamil Nadu are using some form of electric cooking (eCooking).
      • States like Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Telangana (15%), Assam and Kerala (12% each) have seen a gradual increase in the adoption of electric cooking devices such as induction cooktops, rice cookers, and microwave ovens.
      • The study is based on the India Residential Energy Survey (IRES) 2020, conducted in collaboration with the Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy (ISEP).
      • Overall, just 5% of the total households across the country have shifted to eCooking.
      • In February 2021, the ‘Go Electric’ campaign was launched nationwide to promote the benefits of electricity-based cooking.

  1. Ministerial Roundtable Session of the 50th-anniversary edition of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Digital World 2021 was hosted by the Vietnam Government.
      • Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, has attended the session.
      • Prime Minister of Vietnam and Ministers of Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Lao P.D.R., Myanmar and Vietnam also participated.

  3. The Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has conducted the military exercises in Tajikistan due to the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
      • The Collective Security Treaty Organization originates from the conclusion of the Collective Security Treaty, which was signed in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in 1992 by the heads of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
      • Later, it was joined by Azerbaijan, Belarus and Georgia (1993).
      • The treaty entered into force in 1994.
      • The treaty states that “If one of the States Parties is subjected to aggression by any state or group of states, then this will be considered as aggression against all States Parties to this Treaty”.
      • In 2002, this CSTO got the status of an international regional organization in Moscow.
      • Present members of CSTO – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia and Tajikistan.

  1. Vodafone Idea and Larsen and Toubro (L&T) have partnered for a pilot project to test 5G-based smart city solutions.
      • This is part of the ongoing 5G trials on government-allocated spectrum.
      • This has been launched in Pune on a pilot basis.
  2. TATA AIG Insurance launched a ‘Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems’ (RPAS) insurance scheme for drone operators.
      • Tata AIG appointed TropoGo (a deep tech startup in drone segment) as its distributing partner for this scheme.
      • This drone insurance will provide optional coverage for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, night flying, data loss liability and others.
      • In June 2020, IRDAI had formed the Working Group for insurance of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RAPS)/ Drone Technology, which is chaired by Anjan Dey.
  3. IndiaFirst Life Insurance company has launched the “Saral Bachat Bima” insurance scheme with a tagline of ‘Sahi Bachat Jahaan, Safal Jeevan Wahaan’.
      • This plan allows the customers to pay for 5 to 7 years and get a life insurance cover of up to 12 or 15 years for the entire family.
      • Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India (earlier Andhra Bank) have founded the IndiaFirst Life Insurance company.
  4. National Stock Exchange (NSE) has launched NSE-Shine, a blockchain platform for gold billion exchange, in collaboration with Chainflux (a Bengaluru-based startup).
      • The India Gold Policy Centre (IGPC) at the IIM- Ahmedabad and the Indian Bullion and Jewellers’ Association (IBJA) have worked closely with the NSE and Chainflux to develop this blockchain-based platform.
      • The platform will ensure settlement of gold derivatives contracts.
      • The platform would help create a bullion repository for all bullion bars produced by NSE-approved refiners as per the NSE Refiner Standards (NRS).
  5. Tata Motors has launched sub-compact SUV ‘Tata Punch’.
