  1. TheIndian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Prahari, a specialized Pollution Control Vessel, has embarked on an overseas deployment to ASEAN countries.
      • The initiative was announced during the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting Plus meeting in Cambodia in November
      • During this deployment, the ship is scheduled to make port calls in Bangkok (Thailand), Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), and Jakarta (Indonesia).

  2. The synthesis report of the first Global Stocktakehas been released by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) ahead of the in New Delhi.
      • The Global Stocktake is a periodic review mechanism established under the Paris Agreement in 2015.
      • The stocktake takes place every 5 years, with the first-ever stocktake scheduled to conclude at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) at the end of 2023.
      • Its primary objectives are to assess individual countries’ efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and transition to renewable energy sources.
      • Key Recommendations of the Report
        • Equitable Economic Transition
          • Much more ambition is needed to reduce global GHG emissions by 43% by 2030 and further by 60% in 2035and reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 globally.
        • Scaling Up Renewable Energy and Halting Deforestation
          • Renewable energy has to be scaled up and all ‘unabated fossil fuels are to be rapidly eliminated.
          • Deforestation and land-degradationhave to be halted and reversed.

  3. The President of Indiahas inaugurated the ‘National e-Vidhan Application’ (NeVA) and addressed the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in Gandhinagar.
      • The President highlighted the significance of the E-Assembly, which transforms the legislative house into a digital entity, promoting speed and transparency.
      • NeVA is one of the 44 Mission Mode Projects (MMPs) under the “Digital India Programme”which aims to make the functioning of all the State Legislatures paperless by transforming them into ‘Digital House’. Source: PIB
  4. The Indian Prime Minister has recently inaugurated the first phase of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) called ‘Yashobhoomi’, at Dwarka, New Delhi.
      • It will be among the world’s largest MICE(Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destinations.
      • It has a magnificent Convention Centre, multiple Exhibition halls and other facilities.
      • It also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability as it is equipped with a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system with 100% wastewater reuse, provisions of rainwater harvesting, and its campus has received Platinum certification from Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
  5. Project Cheetah has completed one year when the first batch of eight cheetahs from Namibia arrived on September 17, 2022 in India.
  6. Cheetah Reintroduction Project in India
    • Formally commenced on September 17,
    • Objective- Restoring the population of cheetahs, which were declared extinct in the country in 1952.
    • It is world’s first intercontinental large wild carnivore translocation project.
    • In total, 20 adult African cheetahs (12 from South Africa and 8 from Namibia) have been imported so far and were relocated in Kuno National Park.
      • However, 9 cheetahs (6 adults and 3 Cubs) have died.
    • The next batch of cheetahs to be imported from South Africa will be introduced into Madhya Pradesh’s Gandhi Sagar wildlife sanctuary by the year end.

  1. Santiniketan, a town established by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, has been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
      • Santiniketan was established in 1901 when Rabindranath Tagore moved to this region, inspired by the serene and tranquil environment.
      • In 1921, Rabindranath Tagore established Visva-Bharati University within Santiniketan.
      • It aimed to promote the ideals of a universal, non-sectarian, and holistic education system.
    UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites
    • World Heritage Siteis a place that is listed by UNESCO for its special cultural or physical significance.
    • The list of World Heritage Sitesis maintained by the international ‘World Heritage Programme’, administered by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

  1. West Bengal government has announced its own State Education Policy for 2023, declining some of the aspects of the NEP (National Education Policy) 2020.
      • Many states such as Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu have also declined to adopt the NEP 2020 in its entirety.
      Key Highlights of the West Bengal Education Policy
      • The state will maintain the existing 5+4+2+2 patternfor school education.
      • Bangla will be introduced as a subject from Class I to Class XII for students in schools with languages other than Bangla as the medium of instruction.
