  6. India and Australia have decided to expand the scope of its comprehensive free trade agreement by adding 15 new sectors.
      • India and Australia have already implemented an interim trade pact in December 2022.
      • Now, the third round of talks for the proposed comprehensive economic cooperation agreement (CECA) will end on June 16 and the next round of talks is scheduled in July.
      • These new areas may include sports, space, mining and defence collaboration.

      • The demonstration took place at the INS Subhadra, a warship situated 148 km away from the Karwar naval base in Karnataka.
      • The Tapas UAV, developed by DRDO, is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV.
      • It can operate at altitudes of up to 28,000 feet with an endurance of over 18 hours.
      • It was publicly showcased during its first flight at Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru.

      • In 2019, South Asia’s first trans-border petroleum pipeline, linking Motihari in Bihar to Amlekhgunj in Nepal, built at a cost of ₹324 crore, was launched in 2019 and has supplied 2.8 million metric tonnes of diesel to Nepal.
      • When Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited India, the two sides agreed to build the second phase of this pipeline at ₹183 crore to link Siliguri in India and Jhapa in Nepal.
      • In March 2023, India and Bangladesh launched a ₹377-crore cross-border pipeline to supply 1 million metric tonnes of diesel annually from Assam’s Numaligarh refinery to northern parts of the neighbouring country.

      • The measures are taken under RBI’s (relief measures in banks in areas affected by Natural Calamities) direction 2018, chapter VII, Riots and Disturbances: Applicability of Guidelines.
      • As per the RBI’s norms, short-term crop loans can be restructured for riot-affected borrowers with a maximum repayment period of two years, including one year of moratorium, if the borrower faced the crop-loss between 33% and 50%.
      • If the crop loss is more than 50%, the five-year repayment period may be extended up to a maximum of five years, including the one-year moratorium period.
      • The measures allow banks to restructure loans with at least 1 year of moratorium and grant consumption loans, among others.
      • Banks can also extend grant consumption loans up to Rs 10,000 to existing borrowers without any collateral. The limit can be enhanced beyond Rs 10,000 at the bank’s discretion.

  2. Hasmukh Adhia has been appointed as the Chairman of GIFT City Ltd, the entity responsible for developing India’s first smart city Gujarat International Finance-Tec City in Gandhinagar.
      • Adhia is the senior retired bureaucrat and former Union Finance Secretary & Revenue Secretary.
      • Besides GIFT City, Adhia has also been appointed Director and Chairman of the boards of Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd (GACL) and Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (GMDC) with immediate effect.

  1. Writer Arundhati Roy has been awarded the 45th European Essay Prize for lifetime achievement for the French translation of her compilation of essays titled Azadi: Liberté, Fascisme, Fiction (Azadi: Freedom, Fascism, Fiction in English).
      • Roy will receive a cash prize of CHF 20,000 (about Rs 18 lakh) at a ceremony in September in Lausanne, Switzerland.

      • The assistance is given under the Ministry’s Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs).
      • Now, the athletes and support staff travelling for approved competitions abroad will now be entitled to USD 250 per day, which is an increase of 66% from an earlier norm of USD 150 per day.
