  1. Lok Sabha Passes Bill to Set Up IIM Guwahati
  • What:
    • The Lok Sabha passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 to establish an IIM in Guwahati, Assam.

    • The Bill aims to add IIM Guwahati as an institute of national importance to support Assam’s development.

    • The new IIM will receive a corpus of ₹555 crore for five years from 2025-26 to 2029-30.
    • After five years, no extra funds will be given, as the institute is expected to be financially self-sufficient.

    • The permanent campus will be built at Palasbari in Kamrup district, while classes will start this year from a temporary campus under the mentorship of IIM Ahmedabad.

  1. Nepal Eliminates Rubella As A Public Health Problem

    • WHO announced that Nepal has eliminated rubella as a public health problem after verification by the Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella elimination.

    • The achievement aims to protect people, especially women and children, from vaccine-preventable diseases and birth defects caused by rubella.
