      • Purpose – to bridge the gap between skilling and employment by empowering India’s youth with industry-relevant skills.
      • Funding – Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) under the Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP)
        • The BlackRock Foundation and McKinsey & Company are supporting the project.
      • Target – to train 30,000 youth, of which 50% shall be women.
      • Training centres – Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) across 70 districts
      • Skill Sectors – COVID-resilient job sectors like general duty assistant, junior full stack developer, retail sales associate, customer service executive, sewing machine operator, hospital front desk executive, solar PV installer, food & beverage steward
  4. National Conference on Investment Opportunities in Highway, Transport, and Logistics has been organized in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
      • MoU signed at the Conference: –
        • 1st – National Highways Logistics Management Ltd, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd signed an MoU to set up multimodal logistics park at five locations in Maharashtra – Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, and Dighi Port Industrial Estate.
        • 2nd – Maharashtra govt and Tata Motors signed an MoU to set up a registered vehicle scrapping facility, with a capacity of 35000 vehicles a year.
        • 3rd – Maharashtra govt and Cooperative Energy Recycling and Organics (CERO-India’s first organized vehicle recycler) signed MoU for setting up additional vehicle scrapping facility in the state.

State News

  1. Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and GAIL (India) Limited have signed an MoU for setting up a bioethanol plant with a production capacity of 500 kilo litre per day (KLD) in Gujarat.
      • The cost of the project is estimated to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore and it is expected to generate annual revenues of approximately Rs 1,500 crores.
  2. 24th edition of the Lokrang Festival (folk art and cultural festival) was held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
      • The 11 days long festival was organized at Jawahar Kala Kendra under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
      • The event is being held for the first time in two years, after being postponed due to the covid pandemic.
      • 2022 edition of Lokrang will be themed on the nomadic tribes (such as Kalbelia, Banchhada, Pardhi and Bedia tribes) of Madhya Pradesh.
  3. Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has rolled out self-employment schemes to empower rural artisans in UP’s Bundelkhand Region.
      • KVIC distributed 200 bee boxes, 100 electric potter wheels and 50 Agarbatti making machines. This will create a cumulative employment for over 600 local persons.
      • In addition to this, KVIC also provided training to these beneficiaries for carrying out activities at their doorsteps.
      • An awareness program on Central Government’s flagship Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) was also inaugurated on the occasion.

  1. DRDO has conducted a flight demonstration of Controlled Aerial Delivery System of 500 kg capacity (CADS-500) from an AN32 aircraft in Malpura, Rajasthan.
      • Developer of CADS – Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Agra
      • Eleven paratroopers of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force chased the CADS-500 in the air and landed simultaneously at the drop zone in Malpura.
      • The flight demonstration was part of a series of activities to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
  2. Indian Navy conducted the first sea trials of Mormugao stealth destroyer in the Arabian Sea.
      • It is one of the four warships being indigenously built under P-15B project of the Indian Navy.
      • Mormugao is the second stealth destroyer under P-15B — the first, INS Visakhapatnam, was commissioned in the navy in Mumbai on November 21.
      • Mormugao is expected to join the naval fleet by mid-2022, with the remaining two to be commissioned by 2025.
      • The ships are being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai.
  3. Additional Facts:

      • In November 2021, Indian Navy commissioned INS Vela – 4th of the six Kalvari class submarines being constructed in India with technology transfer from French firm Naval Group.
      • INS Vela was constructed under the Project P-75 (project to develop six diesel electric submarines indigenously). Cost of the project is Rs 40,000 crores.

      • Foreign partners – French Naval Group, German conglomerate Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Russia’s Rubin Design Bureau, Spain’s Navantia and South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Company
  4. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated the camp of 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a new building of Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) facility in Pune.
      • At present, NDRF has established 16 battalions across the country.
      • During his tour to Pune, Amit Shah will also visit Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management in his role as Union Minister for Cooperation.

  1. Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) organized a meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan to discuss measures to aid Afghanistan.
      • These countries decided to set up a fund to provide humanitarian aid through the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), which is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
