      • FTA negotiations between India and Israel are pending for a long time.
      • Israel has joined the International Solar Alliance. The agreement was signed during External Affairs S Jaishankar’s visit to Tel Aviv, Israel.

      • Indian Air Force will participate in the biennial Israeli Air Force exercise named ‘Blue Flag’.

        • Last time, India participated in this exercise in 2017.
  3. Indian delegation held a meeting with Taliban representatives on the side lines of Moscow Format of consultations on Afghanistan.
      • The Indian delegation was led by JP Singh, the joint secretary of the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
      • It was the second such bilateral meeting between India and the Taliban after Indian envoy to Qatar Deepak Mittal’s meeting with Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Taliban’s deputy foreign minister, in Doha a month ago.
      • 10 countries, including India, China, Pakistan and some other central Asian countries, participated in the meeting.
  4. Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM-Pune) has developed a new ‘Decision Support System’ (DSS) and enhanced the existing ‘Air Quality Early Warning System’ (AQEWS) for better air-quality management in the Delhi-NCR region.
      • A similar system for Pune is also being planned under a joint project with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
      • IITM is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  5. Indian Railways has ordered to dissolve Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC), as part of the structural reforms in Indian railways.
      • IRSDC, the nine-year-old special purpose vehicle (SPV), is a joint venture between the Indian Railway Land Development Authority and IRCON.
      • It was established to fast track the redevelopment of railway stations.
      • The closure is based on the recommendation of Principal Economic Advisor of Finance Ministry Sanjeev Sanyal.
      • The recommendations made by Sanjeev Sanyal’s report also talked about upgrading all 125 railway hospitals and bringing railway schools under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS).
  6. The joint conference of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was held in Kevadia, Gujarat.
  7. International Conference and Exhibition on Digital technologies, named as “Future Tech 2021”, was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) virtually.
      • The event will revolve around 5 theme pillars: Strategy, Growth, Resilience, Inclusiveness, Trust.
      • Theme of the Conference – “Driving technologies for building the future, we all can trust”

State News

  1. Kerala government is planning to launch an online portal to sell products manufactured by Kudumbashree and other Micro, small, and medium production units.
      • Kudumbashree Mission is the Kerala government’s tool for poverty eradication under the Local Self-Government Department.
      • The mission has a network of 4,511,834 women members spread over 287,723 neighbourhood groups, producing various products.
      • Many times, products manufactured by the Kudumbashree units are not able to reach markets due to logistics constraints. This online platform will ease out those constraints.
  2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh, which will help connect key Buddhist pilgrimage sites.
      • After this, PM participated in the Abhidhamma Day programme in Mahaparinirvana Temple, which is celebrated in Buddhism to mark the end of the 3-months rainy retreat.
  3. Madhya Pradesh has launched the ‘Mukhya Mantri Ration Aapke Dwar’ scheme for tribal people in the state.
      • Under the scheme, ration will be distributed at the doorstep of the tribal villagers. The distribution will take place at a pre-determined time by using vehicles for food transportation.
      • On an average, in a month, 220 to 440 quintals of ration will be distributed by a vehicle for 22 to 25 days.
      • Total annual expenditure on the scheme – Rs 14.07 crores
  4. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has inaugurated a 250 mm Seer Water Supply Scheme, during his two-day visit to Pahalgam district in Kashmir.
      • The project will benefit around 10,000 people.
      • The scheme has been launched under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
      • It will provide tap water within three months.
  5. Union Minister for AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal, has inaugurated Ayush Van, a dedicated forest for Ayurvedic plants at Gandhidham area of Gujarat’s Kutch.
      • The inauguration program was held at the Deendayal Port Trust (DPT)- Rotary Forest in Gandhidham.
      • Ayush Van was set up in 30 acres of land allotted by DPT.

      • Species’ Name – Allium negianum
        • It has been named after Dr. Kuldeep Singh Negi, an eminent explorer and Allium collector from India.
      • ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (New Delhi) has discovered this species.

International News

  1. Deep Space Atomic Clock (DSAC) mission of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has been successfully completed.
      • DSAC was launched in 2019.
      • DSAC is a miniaturized, ultra-precise, mercury-ion atomic clock designed for NASA’s Technology Demonstration Missions Program.
      • The DSAC mission was aboard the OTB satellite of General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS).
      • The DSAC is more precise and stable than other atomic clocks. It will be helpful in measuring time consistently over long periods to support deep space navigation and exploration.
  2. NASA scientists have found water vapour on Jupiter’s moon Europa.
      • The finding was made by using the Hubble Space Telescope.
      • According to scientists, Jupiter has 79 moons.
  3. According to United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the world needs to invest $49.9 trillions to reduce the GHG emissions from transport sector.
      • The transport sector is responsible for 16% of GHG emissions.
      • For reducing the emissions in the energy sector, the world needs an investment of $ 28 trillion.
  4. Bolivia hosted the Like-Minded Developing Countries (LMDC) Ministerial meeting virtually on 18 October 2021.
      • The meeting was convened to gather perspectives on the way forward for the UNFCCC’s 26th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26).
      • Indian Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has attended the meeting.
      • H.E. Juan Santos Cruz, Minister of Environment and Water of Bolivia, inaugurated the meeting.
  5. Ecuador has announced a 60-day nationwide emergency in the wake of rising violent drug crimes in the South American country.
      • President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, made the announcement of emergency.

“Mercer Global Pension Index 2021
    • The coverage under the private pension arrangement is just about 6% in India.
    • 90% of the total workforce is engaged in the unorganized sector. Therefore, steps are need to increase the pension coverage in India.
  1. According to the World Meteorological Organization’s report, Africa’s rare glaciers will disappear in the next two decades because of climate change.
      • Although, Africa’s 54 countries are responsible for less than 4% of global GHG emissions, still, 1.3 billion people in the African continent remain “extremely vulnerable”.
      • Glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya and the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda are shrinking at a faster pace than the global average. If this goes on, it will lead to their total deglaciation by the 2040s.
      • In the sub-Saharan Africa, climate change could further lower GDP by up to 3% by 2050.
      • By 2030, up to 118 million extremely poor people (those living on less than $1.90 a day) will be exposed to drought, floods and extreme heat in Africa, if adequate measures are not taken.
      • The cost of adapting to climate change in Africa will rise to $50 billion per year by 2050, even if the global warming is kept below 2 degrees Celsius.

      • Blue Sky Analytics is an Indian climate tech startup, founded by an IIT alumnus. It is a part of the global coalition named “Climate TRACE”.
        • “Climate TRACE” aims to provide high-resolution and near-real-time (GHG) emissions data to accelerate climate action.
      • In 2020, India contributed 12.2% to cropland fire emissions.
      • The emissions estimates cover both fires caused by human activities, including burning in forest areas for conversion to agricultural land or of crop residues and wildfire activity.

      • The acquisition aims to help Ola to enhance geospatial services and capabilities.
  2. Agri-fintech firm Dvara E-Dairy Solutions Pvt Ltd has partnered with Jana Small Finance Bank to provide financial and livestock management solutions to small and medium dairy farmers.
      • The partnership will work to enhance the credit availability to the dairy farmers.
      • Last month, Stellapps (owner of mooPay – financial management services platform for dairy farmers) partnered with Airtel Payments Bank for providing cashless payment services to small and medium dairy farmers.
  3. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched the NPCI Tokenization system (NTS) to support tokenisation of cards as an alternate to storing card details with merchants.
      • The NPCI Tokenization System (NTS) will support the tokenisation of RuPay cards.
      • NTS will allow acquiring Banks, Aggregators, Merchants and others to get themselves certified with NPCI & become the Token Requestor.
      • Token Requestor will be able to save the Token reference number (Token Reference On File) – an encoded number – which will be generated against the sensitive card information.
      • This TROF will be saved with the merchants and customers will be able to make payments by using the TROF, without entering their card information again and again.
      • Earlier this month, Visa had also launched the card-on-file tokenisation service, in partnership with Juspay (India’s first CoF tokenization service), for e-com platforms such as Grofers, bigbasket and MakeMyTrip.

GDP Forecasts

  1. International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reduced India’s potential growth forecast to 6% from 6.25% earlier.
      • Potential growth is the rate of growth that an economy can sustain over the medium term without generating excess inflation.
      • India’s GDP accounts for around 7% of the world and 80% of the South Asia total in purchasing-power parity (PPP) terms.
      • Beyond the medium-term, India has a positive outlook.
      • This data was released in the Article IV consultation report on India.
