  2. Sikkim government has declared ‘Copper Mahseer’ locally named ‘Katley’ as the State fish.
      • The scientific name of this fish is Neolissochilus hexagonolepis. In 2014, the fish was also categorized as endangered by the IUCN.
      • The reservoirs for this fish are in Chungthang in North Sikkim, Legshep in West Sikkim along with Dikchu and Rorathang in East Sikkim.

  1. 15th India-Nepal joint army exercise named ‘Surya Kiran’ has started in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
      • Exercises with SAARC countries –
        • Maldives – Ekuverin (army),
        • Sri Lanka – Mitra Shakti (army), SLINEX (navy)
        • Bangladesh – Sampriti (army), Bongosagar and IN-BN CORPAT (navy), Table Top Exercise (air force)
      • In June 2021, India and Sri Lanka have conducted a table top exercise (TTX-2021). Also, both countries conducted the Operation Sagar Aaraksha 2 to douse the fire of MV X-Press Pearl, the Singapore-flagged cargo ship that caught fire in May, off Sri Lanka’s coast.
      • The operation also aimed to respond to the environmental damage caused by this incident.

  1. Global Trade Outlook 2021 has been issued by the UK’s Department of International Trade.
      • The report projects that India will become the world’s third largest importer by 2050 with a share of 5.9% of global imports, preceded by China and the US.
      • At present, India is ranked eighth among largest importing nations with a 2.8% import share and is set to become the fourth largest importer by 2030.
      • By 2050, India will become the third largest economy, just behind China and the US, with a share of 6.8% in global GDP. At present, India is ranked fifth in size of world’s economies with a share of 3.3%.
      • India’s GDP is projected to cross Germany by 2030 to become the fourth largest economy.

Global Scenario:

    • US and EU’s overall imports are projected to decline by 2030 due to the rising purchasing power parity (leading to demand) in the Indo-Pacific region.
    • 56% of global growth in imports is expected to come from the Indo Pacific, as compared to a quarter from the EU and North America combined, during 2019-2050.
    • China is the major driver of this shift from west to the east. China is expected to replace US in purchasing power parity by 2030.
    • By 2030, both US and China will account for around 22% of global GDP.
    • The ‘E7 group’ of the seven largest emerging economies—China, India, Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, Mexico and Turkey—are projected to equal the G7’s share of global import demand by 2050.
