      • Three students will be chosen by the all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as their nominations for NEP SAARTHIs.
      • The UGC will select 300 NEP SAARTHIs from among the nominees.
      • Activities to be undertaken by NEP SAARTHIs –
        • Connect with student groups,
        • establish dialogue among students, faculty members, administrators and UGC,
        • prepare brief notes on each NEP initiative for display on campus,
        • plan events, debates, discussions, competitions, quizzes, nukkads, chaupals, initiate social media activities or campaigns and set up NEP help desks at college festivals.

      • MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, will provide assistance to the CoWT for the ‘AMRUT’ Mission for achieving its overall targets.

      • Apart from this, a ‘repository’ of satellite imagery of different time periods of Rajasthan will also be established on the Rajdhara platform.
      • Separately, the state has also approved to set up Lavkush Gardens in all the districts of the state, for which Rs 66 crore has been approved.

  1. The sixth Scorpene Submarine of Project-75, Yard 11880, Indian Navy’s Kalvari class, ‘Vaghsheer’ commenced its sea trials.
      • The submarine was launched in April 2022 by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).
      • Vagsheer is scheduled for delivery to the Indian Navy in early 2024 after the completion of these trials.
      • INS Vagsheer is named after the Sand Fish– a deadly deep-sea predator of the Indian Ocean.

• The first Submarine Vagsheer, ex-Russia, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1974 and was decommissioned in 1997.
• Project-75 includes the indigenous construction of six diesel-electric attack submarines of Scorpene design.
• The submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
Six submarines are INS Kalvari, INS Khanderi, INS Karanj, INS Vagir, INS Vela and INS Vagsheer.

  1. Axiom Space has launched Ax-2 mission, the second private astronaut mission, to the International Space Station (ISS) on the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule named ‘Freedom’ from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
      • Four astronauts went to ISS through this mission. The crew included Saudi Arabia’s first astronaut woman, Rayyanah Barnawi and a Saudi man Ali AlQarni. Barnawi has become the first Saudi woman in space.
      • Other crew members were former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson who will serve as commander and John Shoffner, a paying customer who will serve as Ax-2’s pilot.

  1. Knight Frank (UK-based real estate consultancy company) has released “The Wealth Report” 2023.
      • As per the report, the India’s ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWI) with net worth over $30 million will rise by over half (58.4%) in the next five years.
      • The high-net-worth-individual (HNI) population, with asset value of $1 million and more, which was recorded at 7.9 lakh persons in 2022 will also rise to 16.5 lakh in the next 5-year period.

  2. ‘Internet in India Report 2022’ has been released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India.
      • Out of 759 million ‘active’ internet users in India for 2022, 399 million are from rural India, while 360 million are from urban India.
      • Approximately, 56% of all new internet users in India will be from rural areas by 2025.
      • Urban India witnessed only 6% growth (in 2022) while the rural India witnessed a 14% growth rate over the past year.
      • Urban India witnesses an approximately 71% internet penetration.

  1. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced the CVV (Card Verification Value) free facility for its Rupay debit, credit and prepaid cardholders who have tokenized their cards on the merchant application.
      • Mechanism – Now, the cardholders will not have to fill any card details, if they have saved (tokenized) their card on the e-commerce merchant which supports this feature

• Process of tokenisation
o When a cardholder opts to save their card for a domestic ecommerce transaction, they authenticate the transaction through the card details (Card number, CVV, Card expiry date) as a one-time activity followed by entering the OTP (two-factor authentication), the details are then Tokenized and saved with the merchant.
o The customer can complete the payment for the subsequent transactions by just entering the OTP without the need to enter the CVV or other card details again.
o RuPay had launched the Card on File Tokenization facility in 2021.

  1. RBI has withdrawn the currency notes of Rs 2,000, from circulation, adding that the notes will continue to be legal tender.
      • It said the existing Rs 2,000 notes can be deposited or exchanged in banks until September 30, but set a limit of “Rs 20,000 at a time”.
      • The facility for exchange of Rs 2,000 notes, up to the limit of Rs 20,000 at a time, will also be provided at the 19 regional offices of the RBI having issue departments from May 23.
      • At present, Rs 2000 notes are only 10%-11% of the total currency.
      • The Rs 2,000 note was introduced in November 2016 under Section 24(1) of RBI Act, 1934.

      • Under the new framework, all stock brokers will have to display the risk disclosures on their websites and, also inform all their clients in the specified manner.
      • In addition, all Qualified Stock Brokers (QSBs) have been directed to maintain the Profit and Loss (P&L) data of their clients on continuous basis. Such data of the clients need to be retained for at least five years.
