  1. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has launched a new scheme ‘Ashirbad’ for education, health and maintenance of Covid orphans.
      • Children who lost their parents or main earning person of the family on April 1, 2020 or thereafter to Covid-19 will be eligible to be covered under the scheme.
      • Rs 2500 per month will be deposited in the bank accounts of family members who have taken responsibility of the children after death of their parents.
      • The assistance will continue till 18 years of the child or till such a date if somebody adopts him.
      • The children will get free treatment under the state government’s Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.
      • Besides, they will be also included as beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
      • Apart from these, various other benefits will be provided to the children in this schemes to make their lives easy.
  2. Punjab has launched a special mobile app “Khedo Punjab” for putting the Sports Department and all the Sports persons of State of Punjab on Digital platform.

  1. Indian Navy and EU NAVFOR Somalia have conducted a joint naval exercise in the Gulf of Aden.
      • EU NAVFOR stands for European Union Naval Force.
      • A total of five warships from four navies – Indian Naval Ship Trikand, Italian Navy Ship ITS Carabinere, Spanish Navy Ship ESPS Navarra, and two French Navy Ship FS Tonnerre and FS Surcouf – participated in the exercise.
      • A virtual information sharing exercise between Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region, Gurugram and EU NAVFOR Maritime Operations Centre was also conducted.
      • Indian Navy and EU NAVFOR also have regular interaction through SHADE (Shared Awareness and De-confliction) meetings held annually at Bahrain.

    About EU NAVFOR Somalia:

      • It is also known as Operation Atalanta.
      • It was launched in 2008. In December 2020, it has been extended to 2022.
      • It’s operational headquarters are in Spain.
      • It is the first EU naval operation that was launched to prevent piracy attacks on Somalia bound vessels. Later on, it’s scope was expanded to include internal water bodies of Somalia as well to prevent piracy attacks on vessels of World Food Program and other vulnerable vessels. The operation collaborates with the local govt of Somalia for preventing piracy.
      • Operation Atalanta is an integral part of the EU´s approach to the Horn of Africa and Somalia.
      • EU NAVFOR operates in an Area of Operations covering the Southern Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and a large part of the Indian Ocean, including the Seychelles, Mauritius and Comoros.
      • EUCAP Somalia (for regional maritime capacity-building) and EU Training MissionSomalia (to strengthen the Somali National Government and provide military training to members of the Somali National Armed Forces) are the other missions of EU in Somalia.

Memorandum of Understanding

  1. National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) has signed an MoU with Union Bank of India under NSIC Bank Credit Facilitation Scheme to support MSMEs with credit requirements.
      • The MoU will help MSMEs in obtaining loans from the Union Bank of India in an easier manner.
      • NSIC Bank Credit Facilitation Scheme aims to provide credit to the MSMEs via banks. For this purpose, the NSIC has already signed MoU with many banks including Yes Bank, IndusInd, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank etc.

  2. Global Scenario:

      • Globally, the FDI inflows declined by 35% to $ 1 trillion in 2020, as compared to $ 1.5 trillion in 2019, due to the pandemic.
      • Pandemic has led to an increased demand in the field of digital infrastructure / ICT. The FDI flows in this sector increased by 22% to $ 81 billion.
      • In South Asia, the FDI inflow has increased by 20% to $ 71 billion, driven mainly by strong merger & acquisitions in India.
      • In South Asia, the FDI outflow has fallen by 12% to $12 billion, driven by a drop in investment from India.
      • Developing Asia’s FDI inflows increased by 4% to $ 535 billion in 2020.

      • India became the 5th largest recipient of FDI inflows in the world. India received FDI inflows worth $ 64 billion in 2020.
      • This is an increase of 27% in FDI inflows. In 2019, India received $ 51 billion FDI inflows.
      • In 2019, India was the 8th largest recipient of FDI whereas this position improved to 5th largest in 2020, mainly due to the ICT sector.
      • In terms of FDI Outflows, India was ranked 18th with $ 12 billion FDI outflows in 2020, in comparison to $ 13 billion FDI outflow and 20th rank in 2019.
