  1. Department of Telecommunications has extended the PLI Scheme for Telecom sector by a year.
      • The beneficiaries will have to choose between FY22 or FY23 as their base year.
      • In the performance-linked incentive scheme for the telecom sector, ‘design-led manufacturing’ has been added as a new component.
      • Additionally, incentives worth Rs 4,000 crores have been announced for 5 years, beginning April 1.
      • 11 new telecom and networking products, like Open RAN and satellite communication equipment, have been added under the scheme.

    PLI Scheme for Telecom Sector

    • Launched – February 2021
    • Total Outlay – Rs 12,195 crores
    • Duration – Up to 2025-26 (earlier)
    • So far, 31 companies, including 7 global and 8 domestic, have been chosen under the scheme.
    • The scheme aims to enhance India’s contribution to the global value chain as envisaged in National Digital Communication Policy, 2018.

      • National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is the implementing agency of the initiative.
      • Purpose ­– to train 1 lakh construction workers through fresh skilling and upskilling programs and provide them with work opportunities in other countries also.

  1. Indian Navy’s stealth frigate, INS Talwar is presently deployed for Operation Sankalp.
      • Indian Navy had commenced Maritime Security Operations, code named ‘Op SANKALP’, in the Gulf Region in June 2019 to ensure safe passage of Indian Flag Vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
