      • CSIR Jigyasa program was launched in 2017 to increase the curiosity and scientific temperament in the students. It is being implemented in partnership with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathans (KVS).

  1. 5th East Asia Summit Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation was organized in Kolkata, in partnership with Australia.
      • Organizers – ASEAN-India Centre (AIC) at Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), National Maritime Foundation (NMF), and the Research Centre for East and North East Regional Studies, Kolkata (CENERS-K).
      • The EAS conference was first initiated in 2015 and the first conference was held in New Delhi. The second was held in Goa in 2017, the third in Bhubaneswar in 2018, and the fourth in Chennai in 2020.
  2. Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has inaugurated ISRO’s five-day Technology Conclave-2021.
      • The conclave is being organized by the Directorate of Technology Development and Innovation (DTDI) under the aegis of ISRO.

  1. Airbus Defence and Space (European aircraft manufacturer) has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for developing Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS).
      • This is part of Airbus’ offset commitments under the C295 aircraft programme of India.
      • In September, India had signed a nearly Rs 20,000 crore contract with Airbus Defence and Space to procure 56 C-295 transport aircraft to replace the Avro-748 planes of the IAF.

International News

  1. AUKUS – Australia, UK, and US – partnership for developing 8 nuclear powered submarines for Australia has been officially signed by the three countries.
  2. NASA is set to test a “Laser Communications Relay Demonstration” (LCRD) technology in space, with the aim of speeding up space communications.
      • LCRD is expected to launch in December 2021 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
      • It will be launched on STPSat-6 spacecraft aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.
      • It will benefit in the “Artemis mission”, which will be launched in 2024.
      • Laser technology in space will allow 10–100 times more data sent back to Earth, as against radio frequencies.

Banking & Economy

  1. HDFC Bank has launched ‘Mooh Band Rakho’ (a secure banking campaign), in partnership with Jodhpur Police, to create awareness on cyber frauds and ways of preventing them.
  2. SBI’s Ecowrap Report projects India’s GDP growth rate for FY22 in the range of 3-9.6%.
      • The report also cited the repeal of the three farm laws and suggested five key agricultural reforms that can be adopted to stall the standoff between farmers and the govt.
      • 1st – Quantity Guarantee Clause – SBI suggested that the govt should guarantee the farmers to procure the same quantity of their produce for a minimum of 5 years. This is an alternative to the price guarantee, given by the govt in the form of MSP, at present. It will give assurance to farmers of the sale of their produce.
      • 2nd Floor Price Auction – There should be a floor price auction on the National Agriculture Market for effective price discovery for the farmers.
      • 3rd – APMC infrastructure – Considering the losses faced by India in the post-harvest stage, the report suggests the govt to strengthen the APMC market infrastructure.
      • 4th Contract Farming Institution – In order to strengthen the contract farming mechanism, a nodal institution needs to be set up.
      • 5th – Symmetric Procurement – States should procure the agriculture produce symmetrically.
  3. Ministry of Labour and Employment has started the first edition of All-India Survey on Domestic Workers.
      • The survey will be conducted by Labour Bureau.
      • The survey was aimed at estimating the number of proportion of domestic workers at the national-level and in the States; the proportion of domestic workers who live-in/live-out, engaged in informal employment and migrant/non-migrant; wages of such workers; and other socio-economic factors.
  4. RBI has released the draft scheme on the acquisition of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank by Delhi-based Unity Small Finance Bank (USFB).
      • USFB is promoted by Centrum Financial Services, along with Resilient Innovation Pvt Ltd as ‘joint investor’.
  5. State Bank of India (SBI) has listed its $650-million green bonds simultaneously on the India International Exchange (India INX – international arm of BSE) and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
      • This dual listing is in line with this year’s focus of the World Investor Week, i.e., ‘sustainable finance’.
      • In 2020, India INX had signed an MoU with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange for cooperation in financial services industry, maintenance of orderly markets in securities respective country, ESG (environmental, social and governance) and green finance in the local market.
