  1. IIT-Madras has developed India’s first indigenous motorized wheelchair vehicle named ‘NeoBolt’ that can be used not only on roads but even on uneven terrains.
  2. The Minister of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, has announced that India will add 35 earthquake observatories by 2021.
      • By 2026, India will add 100 more earthquake observatories.
      • Presently, 115 earthquake observatories are operating in India.
      • He made these announcements at the Joint Scientific Assembly of International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) – International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior (IASPEI).
      • The Joint Scientific Assembly was hosted by CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI) and Indian National Science Academy, in association with Ministry of Earth Sciences.
      • Director of CSIR-NGRI, Dr V. M. Tiwari, is the chair of the Joint Scientific Assembly.
  3. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu launched ‘Vaccinate India Program’ organised by Give India Foundation and Sustainable Goals Coordination Centre, Bengaluru.
      • The program was organized, as part of the CSR activity, in association with Planning Department of the Karnataka government, in Bengaluru.
  4. ISRO has launched ‘Announcement of Opportunity’ (AO) initiative where the private entities are allowed to use the data obtained from all experiments of the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter.
      • According to ISRO, the data from Chandrayaan-1 had been extensively used by Indian researchers to understand lunar morphology, surface age determination and composition of the lunar surface, among other things.
      • The AO is open to all researchers from recognised academic institutions, universities, colleges, planetaria and government organisations of India.

  1. NABARD has extended a grant of ₹24.90 lakh for a project on Integrated Mangrove Fishery Farming System (IMFFS) in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu.
      • The project is being implemented by the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and is aimed at enhancing the adaptive capacity of the fishing community.

  1. 2nd edition of the United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) will be held in Hyderabad, India, in 2022.
      • Theme of Second UNWGIC: Geo-enabling the Global Village.
      • Organizer: United Nation Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM)
      • The Congress is conducted every four years to enhance the cooperation among members in Geospatial information management and capacities.
      • The first UNWGIC was organized by China in October 2018.

      • UN-GGIM was set up in 2009 by United Nations Statistics Division to promote the use of Geospatial Information Management to address key challenges of the world.
  3. 7th International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2021” was hosted by Russia at Patriot Expo, Kubinka Air Base and Alabino military training grounds.
      • India exhibited its indigenously built fighter aircraft and anti-tank missiles at the event.

  1. US-backed Citibank has received approval from International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to open a banking unit at IFSC, Gift city, Gandhinagar.
  2. ICICI Bank Germany has launched a digital and instant ‘ICICI Bank Germany Student Blocked Account’ for students aspiring to study in Germany.
      • A Blocked Account is a special type of account wherein students are required to keep a certain amount of money in order to get a Balance Confirmation Certificate (BCC), a mandatory requirement for a student Visa in Germany.
      • Only banks, which are authorized by German Federal Foreign Office, can offer the Blocked Account.
      • ICICI Bank Germany is the first bank to offer the dual advantage of a completely digital ‘Blocked Account’ and a complimentary Current Account to students.
  3. RBI has launched the Platform for Regulated Entities for Integrated Supervision and Monitoring (PRISM), a web-based end-to-end workflow automation system, to strengthen compliance by supervised entities (SEs).
      • This platform will ease the process of frequent reviews of risk profiles and supervisory assessments of supervised entities, including banks and non-banking financial companies.
      • The platform will also help the supervised entities to strengthen their internal defences and resilience and bringing focus on root cause analysis (RCA).
  4. As per the annual report of NABARD for 2020-21, the total loans and advances extended by NABARD during 2020-21 have increased by 25.2% to reach Rs 6 lakh crores.
      • Half of this amount is going into production and investment.
      • NABARD’s income saw an increase of 6.1% over the preceding year.
      • Agricultural credit outstanding grew at 12.3% in 2020-21, the highest across all sectors.
      • A credit guarantee fund of Rs 1,000 crore with equal share from the central government and NABARD was set up under NABSanrakshan, a NABARD subsidiary, to incentivise banks to finance Farmer Producer Organizations.
  5. Paytm and HDFC Bank have partnered to better services to their customers.
      • The partnership will accelerate digital transformation in semi urban and rural India while bringing more people into formal banking channels.
      • Through this partnership, Paytm & HDFC Bank will build comprehensive solutions across Payment Gateway, POS Machines and Credit Products including Paytm Postpaid which is Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) solution, Eazy EMI and Flexi Pay, and more.
