      • It is a major step towards the indigenisation of technologies involved in operating the network.

      • The announcement was made during the ‘Fishermen Convention’ organised by Kerala Pradesh Fishermen Group (BMS) at Munambam in Kochi.

  1. Pune -based Southern Command of Indian Army has conducted the Dakshin Shakti military exercise in Rajasthan and Gujarat to strengthen their operational readiness.
      • Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, and other paramilitary forces also participated in this exercise.
      • Recently concluded Sagar Shakti exercise was also a part of the Dakshin Shakti exercise.
  2. Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has granted permission for the mass production of AK-203 rifles.
      • The Council has also approved an independent satellite for the Indian Air Force.

      • The Earth Science mission aims to improve understand of the current state of the Earth system and to enable continual improvement in the prediction of future changes.

  1. International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International-IDEA) has released the Global State of Democracy Report, 2021.
      • While 20 countries moved in the direction of authoritarianism, seven countries moved towards democracy; showing an alarming trend.
      • Many established democracies are backsliding to authoritarianism. Particularly, the examples of India and Brazil are worrisome.
      • India has remained in the category of a mid-level performing democracy as it has since 2000.
      • The USA and three members of the European Union (EU) – Hungary, Poland and Slovenia (chair of the EU Council in 2021) – have also seen concerning democratic declines.
      • As per this report, pandemic has also played a major role in prolonging this negative trend in democracy.
      • The International-IDEA, which is an inter-governmental organisation supporting democracy, was chaired by Australia and includes India as a member-state.

  1. ICICI Bank has launched ‘Trade Emerge’ online platform to offer comprehensive digital banking and value-added services to exporters and importers across India.
  2. State Bank of India (Chennai circle) has signed an MoU with the Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers Union (PONLAIT) to provide loan to individual dairy farmers.
      • The loan would be given under SAFAL (simple and fast agriculture loan) scheme of the bank.
      • The amount of loan is up to a limit of Rs 3 lakh.
  3. The Financial Stability Board (FSB), made up of regulators from G20 countries, has published its latest table of the world’s 30 most systemic banks.
